Notes

The credit in Levitate is shown on cover as Walters but should've been Wolters! Silvia's Mother and Cover Of Rolling Stone are rightly CBS recordings of 1972 vintage and should've been duly credited as such. Instead Capitol showed the tracks as C/right 1980 Capitol - naughty, naughty!!

The play series lasted around the mid eighties where it continued from there I really don't know but I do have the EMI compilation called surf n summer as the title says some of the songs on the album are just that

I don't know exactly how many issues there were in the PLAY 1000 series but obviously ran to more than 21 albums. For the James Bond themes EMI simply left the '1' out of the catalogue number, though it would've been planned to be the 7th in the series in any case. But did I tell you that James Bond had a brother? Eric. Nicknamed "Poxy" by schoolmates, as he grew, he followed big brother Jim into the spying game. He hated his given name so asked people to just call him E. Bond, but he was always getting into sticky situations, so much so that someone remembered his schoolboy nickname and that's how he became known as E. "Poxy" Bond! (Epoxy...get it?) Ha-Ha!

The album was issued as part of a series across all EMI labels, carrying the PLAY-1000 series catalogue numbers, this one was the third in the series as PLAY-1003.

I have that album too, R.C.! Stand-out track is "Cooky & Lyla"! For a group as zany and hilarious as Dr. Hook was on stage, they sure could turn out some great ballads!

One track I have on another CD issue is the B-side to A Little Bit More, titled A Couple More Years, another great song! Dr. Hook were a great group, hilarious on stage! I saw them perform 'Live' at the Civic Theatre, Newcastle many years ago. Their support act was Ross("I Am Pegasus") Ryan. When he first came on the audience booed him but he won that Newcastle crowd over by about his third song. I think the year might've been 1975, Dr. Hook would've just dropped the "Medicine Show" tag and touring to promote the Bankrupt LP, Ryan himself would've been promoting his After The Applause album and its feature track, Blue Chevrolet Ballerina.

Here it is, folks! The Australian version of Dr. Hook's Greatest Hits. What I said in the notes is quite right. A close look at the respective labels will reveal A10 and B7 both credited to Capitol(EMI's US subsidiary) and shown as having a 1980 copyright date. The label should by rights have stated "Used by permission of CBS Inc. - Published & Copyright 1972" One stand-out track on this set that the Brits missed out on is Tr.B8, a brilliant ballad that became a favourite of mine from the first time I heard it! Red-Winged Blackbird - Beautiful!
