I have again been thinking (lol) ... since the matter is pretty complex. But - the simplest solution to all Peacock /ABC-Peacock / MCA cataloguing problems might be perhaps the following:

Peaock was independent until May 1973, afterwards part of ABC-Dunhill. ABC-Peacock becomes MCA in 1979.
So, regardless of what we find on the labels or sleeves, if an album was released before May 1973, it's Peacock; if after, it's ABC Peacock (even though they retained the "pure" Peacock logo until 1974 and at first continued the old Peacock numbering).

This also solves the problems of re-issues: Every album released originally before May 73 will be Peacock as long as no new cat# has been used. MCA-Issues with new cat# but lacking the original Peaock cats# will be listed under MCA. Those LPs stamped secondarily with the new MCA cat# on the front sleeve should remain being listed under Peacock or ABC Peacock, with the MCA cat# entered after a slash in the Catalogue box (like we did).

Summing up:
All Peacock LPs up to May 73: Label = Peacock.
After that: Label = ABC Peacock.
MCA -issues from 1979 onwards: Listed under MCA.
MCA-stamped releases of former years: Listed as (ABC) Peacock xxx / MCA xxx.

Thus, this scheme uses the actual release date as the most important criterion. MCA re-issues with new cat# are considered separately.

Would that do?

Phil, please comment, because we need to find some solution here :)

Well, I think I understand your viewpoint cussin', but my feeling is that the MCA number is the primary catalogue number whenever/wherever it appears, and then by extension the label becomes MCA, regardless of what was originally printed on the cover or label. MCA's intent was to phase put the old labels completely, and once all the old pressings and covers were gone, new MCA pressings and covers were created using those same new numbers. We can add the original Peacock or ABC Peacock catalogue number as a second catalogue number ourselves, and it would be good if we could add a second label ourselves too (Admins: note!) but at the moment we have to ask the mods to do that.

Hi Phil, again about how to deal with the Peacock / ABC Peacock / MCA albums: I think best is to proceed by cat#: If there's an original Peacock cat# like PLP-xxx, it gets listed under Peacock (no matter what the rim print on the labels says or even if MCA later stamped new cat#s on the sleeve), yet if the LP shows the new ABC Peacock cat# like PL-59xxx it gets listed under ABC Peacock (listed separately from Peacock). MCA re-issues are listed under MCA only if they ONLY show the MCA cat# (and not also or primarily the old Peacock cat#). I saw that you proceeded along these lines with MCA. I meanwhile created "ABC Peacock" as a label separate from "Peacock" (LPs of ABC Peacock will basically also feature the striped light blue/lilac label design).

Hi, I wonder if the release date should be changed to 1960, then? I realize that this is the ABC reissue, but if the label and catalogue number are essentially the same as the original, then they can be put together, I think. Ditto the ABC Peacock ones on the lilac/blue label, because I'm not convinced that the label name had changed - I think ABC was only appearing on everything in the same fashion that EMI's box logo did on their labels. Only the ones that have an MCA number attached to them (by whatever method!) should be separate. (MCA reissue for this was MCA-28002, BTW).
