I wonder if the copies with the poster came first or were a marketing gimmick to boost lacklustre sales.

As uninspiring as it is uninspired.

Although I've only had experience of Barclay James Harvest from a copy of "Once Again" (their second), that I picked up a while back, that casued me to have high hopes for this one, that I'm afraid to say, have been pretty much dashed...

This could be the definition of the "phoned-in" album.

... A lacklustre, flat, and lifeless porridge of a music, which, although there are some potentially good musical ideas and motifs in it, are as weakly presented as the almost demo quality vocal delivery.

It sounds an effort, and barely even that, from the same group who delivered that other fantastic record I mentioned.

Maybe they had just run out of steam by this point, or were depressed by having to contend with a world with punk in it, I don't know, but it is, at times, somewhere between the schloppy singer songwriter-y stuff of the seventies, a bland version of easy listening country music, and at others a kind of Lindisfarne tribute act... only without the tunes.

If I'm being generous, I'd say that at other times, there are suggestions in the instrumentation of a later (Gilmour era) Pink Floyd, and the odd resemblance to the band: America... but this is only fleeting, and it sighs those comparisons, rather than suggest them.

There are only two songs I thought were really worth anything here: Turning In Circles does find them waking up long enough to give you a fairly strong tune, and Harbour, is a also, a nice, if sedate song... otherwise, it's inhumanly dull.

My copy of this has an embossed butterfly image and roman numerals on the front cover.

Did this remain, or are there "smooth" copies about?

(I also see some with a poster about on the net)
