Thanks to your hint I remembered this passage in Heilbut's Gospel Sound, p. 217: "In 1969 he [James Cleveland] helped organize the Southern California Community Choir, a disciplined and adventurous group. Their president is Annette May, daughter of Brother Joe May [. . .]. His albums with the choir and the Gospel Girls (Annette May and two other choir soloists) are his best in years. Once again, he's breaking the 50,000 mark with his releases."
PhilMH 15th Jun 2014		Presumably Annette May is Brother Joe May's daughter, who later recorded for Stax's Gospel Truth and Truth labels as Annette Thomas?
