my copy has matrix numbers SBPG 62579-A2 & SBPG 62579-B2; front sleeve has red main typography, paul simon on left, cbs & "walking eye" logo in outline square in white; rear sleeve has just "62579" under the cbs & "walking eye" in an outline square logo and the top & bottom tabs from front cover are folded under back cover and glued.

i believe there was an earlier-released version of the cover with "MONO bpg"° (mono release) (and one with "STEREO Sbpg"° (stereo release)) -prefixed cat# on rear cover below the logo, possibly also on front cover below the logo, and with the top & bottom tabs from the front cover folded over the rear cover and glued, as cass had the first pressing of this album from 1965 in mono: but i'm not now certain there was a stereo release, initially: this may have been first issued closer to 1967.

° - the cat# "bpg"s i've given in lower case were small caps

(and i know the cbs logo was & is claimed by some to be a stylised stylus engaging a record's groove - but it's known as the "walking eye" logo, so...)

Added labels which differ slightly around the ℗ 1965. My cover is the same as that of Ade Macrow, but it's probably not a very early pressing. It has the same "Sounds of the 70s" inner sleeve as the one shown here with the Bridge Over Troubled Water LP.

I've seen this twice while out and about over the past year, but can't for the life of me remember which sleeve version it was.

...First time I was on a budget of £10, and Led Zep's Physical Graffiti turned up for £8, so had to pass... the next time I saw it, there was also other stuff I wanted, but thought:

"Well, I've seen it twice now, so it'll probably turn up again"

...Have I seen it since?

Non.

Check for ghost catalogue numbers and other oddness on your early sixties CBS nb.... you could have a rarity :)

Picked this up for £3 in a chazza yesterday - delighted with that. I have the original sleeve as described in the comments - I'll upload when I get to it.

Wasn't this album recorded direct to mono? The CD reissue of the album appears to be flat mono all the way, including bonus tracks.

Have to admit to not having listened to much of his solo output - but this, "There Goes Rhymin' Simon", and "The Rhythm of the Saints" are all fantastic albums by my standards.

Apparently this was released in the US as part of a Simon & Garfunkel box set, but it's unavailable apart from that...a real shame.

Only have this on a CD-R (with an alternate take of " A Church Is Burning" & the 45 take of "I Am A Rock" as bonus tracks), but I think it's a great album.

I'd have to agree with you...

Absolutely love this album, though I only have it on the computer. "A Church Is Burning" is quite magnificent.

I'm a lot less enamoured with the rest of his solo output.

Not counting "I Am A Rock" and "The Sound Of Silence" (although these versions
ARE interesting), I actually prefer these solo recordings over the later Simon & Garfunkel versions. From what I've read, Paul himself didn't seem to care for this album.

The copy shown dates from the early '70s. Original issues have the cover image reversed and use a different, red typeface for the title. I'm fairly sure. This was mono only initially at first.
