The above is the officially issued package of Academy Award winning songs that were made widely available across the globe. All the above titles, with one exception: THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, have the original April 1962 vocals. To these vocals, new overdubbed backings were added. THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, a clear front runner for the 1962 BEST SONG OF THE YEAR AWARD was recorded on March 22, 1963 and added to this set shortly after it won the best song award at the April 8, 1963 Oscar ceremony.
The revised album was released later in that same month and assigned the same MGM E/SE catalog number. This number was originally assigned for a scheduled Connie Francis LP titled; CONNIE FRANCIS SINGS "MOON RIVER" AND OTHER ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS in 1962 which never saw the light of day.
Artwork covers had already been prepared prior to the Oscar win and initial copies were shipped out with a defacing blue and white sticker with the proclamation: EXTRA ADDED ATTRACTION DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES E/SE 4048" ". A close-up scan of this sticker has been provided here.
Also worthy of mention is that song selection A6: OVER THE RAINBOW appearing on this collection is an abridged version of the original 1962 vocal with overdubbed accompaniment.
