 - cbs inherited the embassy label when they bought levy's music business as the foundation of their independent uk operations. it'd been a mostly - not quite entirely - singles-based label dedicated primarily to the rapid production of "sound-alike covers" of uk-charting singles, and singles believed inevitably about-to-chart, distributed and sold mainly (initially, and for most of the label's life in that incarnation) through branches of f.w. woolworth & co. ltd. at around half or two-thirds of the price of full-price singles and - illegally - blaring out of loudspeakers slung outside the entrance doors to woolworth's shops.

- i'm not sure anyone at cbs'd considered what, if anything, they were going to do with the embassy label until they found they owned it - and would probably need to release something upon it, to maintain their ownership of the label and trademark. . .
