A petal pattern fantasia of rainbow sounds, of swinging tranquillity — lilacs in a velvet storm, NIRVANA -- ecstasy -- the space between, where the classics meet the blues, and folk meets jazz. Muff Winwood's sculpture in sound: NIRVANA.

NIRVANA is not the name of a group. It is the name given to the musical creations and productions of PAT CAMPBELL-LYONS and ALEX SPYROPOULOS. "We try to expand in the widest possible field, involving verse, sound, mime, all artistic creation in fact", said Pat. "And all this would not be possible without the finance and guidance of Island Records. NIRVANA is here today and tomorrow", he continued. "Except Sundays", interrupted Alex, smiling from his half-curled position in a chair.

Pat and Alex are steadily building up a reputation as outstanding songwriters. Apart from their own recordings, such as "Pentecost Hotel", "Rainbow Chaser" and "Wings Of Love", which were all big sellers, they have written songs such as "We Can Help You" for ALAN BOWN, "Waterfall" for JIMMY CLIFF, which topped the charts in Brazil, and the theme song for the United Artists film "The Touchables" titled "All Of Us".

NIRVANA is like a pop-workshop. Pat and Alex have at their disposal various young musicians, who, with the arrangements of Syd Dale make NIRVANA a unique musical experience.

So I put the rest here: ALEX SPYROPOULOS Born in Athens on 13th August, 1943, Alex's original ambition was to emulate the career of his father, himself an international judge at The Hague in Holland, but luckily for Nirvana, changed his mind about this in favor of becoming a jazz pianist. At the age of three a serious accident kept Alex in hospital for several years, undergoing a series of knee operations. Then, starting school in Athens, he spent his vacations in France, where he eventually he became a law student in Paris. However, his studies began to give way to his growing passion for jazz, and soon, he was playing piano with a jazz group around the universities. Then realising the insecurity of a musical career, Alex came to England and enrolled at the London School of Film Technique with a view to Direction and Scriptwriting. There he started writing and recording songs, and spending a small fortune making demos, but without success. Very disappointed, Alex returned to Paris, but his urge to form a group brought him back again, and his hopes were finally realised when Chris Blackwell accepted his composition "Tiny Goddess". Alex is now an established songwriter with an ever increasing demand for his songs. PAT CAMPBELL-LYONS Born in Cork on 3th July, 1945. Pat's education began at the Christian Brothers School, where he stayed for 10 years, passing "A" levels in English, History, Latin and Design. At 18, when his family moved to London, Pat began a short-lived course in graphic design at Ealing Technical College where he met and joined a beat group, as harmony singer. A trip to Germany followed, including performances at the legendary Star Club In Hamburg, but after 5 months the group disbanded. Intent on continuing in the business, Pat joined Sweden's top R&B group, the Merrymen, and traveled with them to Stockholm, but a serious bout of illness mined his chances. Corning home to Ealing, Pat wrote a song called "Chance For Romance" which was accepted by President records, and two releases followed from this, plus a second visit to Germany. Sometime later, Pat met Muff Winwood who asked to hear some of his compositions and Pat thus joined Alex to form Nirvana.
