| | Yes. I agree about the black blank paper stock leading to a generic one tone solution except for acts like the Beatles whose Apple output had to be carefully handled. One hidden Gem is that a famous LP replayed a prank from yesteryear |

| | (timing & depending somewhat on quite what the date of them may be:)
a) the harvest label was being run down - i was told that most of the truly serious rock, electric folk & singer-songwriter "underground" bands and solo artists on harvest, for which it had been created, made very little profit for emi compared with those on the overtly pop emi and emi america labels that had replaced columbia, parlophone and stateside - and the manager of the emi label was set on claiming any and every clearly commercial home-grown act for his own empire...
plus:
b) many of the most successful serious rock, electric folk & singer-songwriter bands & artists had been lured away by other megamusiccorpses, such as philips-polydor, cbs and the kinney/wea/warner group - and not only onto the vertigo label: barclay james harvest, after whom the label was more-or-less named, went straight onto polydor; or else parlayed their commercial success into assistance establishing their own record labels, such as deep purple's "purple";
and:
c) printing all remaining "legacy" emi group pop labels in job lots in one colour ink (silver) on one colour paper (black) would likely prove cheaper, as well as demand a lot less management attention. |

| | One of my prized possesions is the shop poster for this 2 LP. Because the poster is bigger than the LP sleeve, Hipgnosis had to redo the idea of the artwork which created another 3 iterations to reach infinity back in '69. Rick Wright is the main figure for good measure. |
