| | I have the 3rd Edition UK Pressing of this Album with The Barcode (5099916341036) on the Rear Cover (Not A Sticker) The Cat number is the same SHDW 411 and has an additional Cat Number 16 3410 3. The Labels are identical but the Inners, Gatefold and Rear Cover have variations not shown on the images already here. Should I add the variations here or create a separate entry? |

Magic Marmalade 4th Dec 2014
| | Picked up another copy of this during the summer... a one piece constructed first press, and so can compare my two copies, and my other copy is as stated, a first press-materials with second press elements mashed together: A proper "transition sleeve". |

Magic Marmalade 24th Sep 2014
| | It would seem that the decision to correct the relevant inside cover info (band members) afforded them the opportunity to make the other changes for issue 2, but as economic considerations come into play, I'd say they still had stock of first issue covers, and used these up by ingeniously cutting off the inside cover print, allowing them to simply flip the front upside down, and glue it to a new issue inside piece.... using up first issue sleeve stock, with only half the wastage, and at the same time re-aligning the sleeve bricks to the bottom, and not the top!
Then they ditched the sticker (and attendant costs) before finally doing away with rounded corners, and once this old stock was used up, they simply printed the new white sleeves and called it a second issue. |

Magic Marmalade 24th Sep 2014
| | My copy of this is very curious... It has the cream coloured cover, identifying it as a first issue, but is of two piece construction (outside front cover glued to a separate inside front cover) consistent with the second issues, but has no band members listed inside (first issue), and the inner sleeves are true white (second issue) but with rounded corners (first), not square cut (second), and with thumb notch at the top (first); Also, SHDW 411, OC-158 63410, and SHSP 411 appears bottom right of each (Second issue). The White of the inner sleeves is in stark contrast to the cream of the album cover too.
It seems I have some kind of cobbled together assemblage of the two issues, mostly consistent with variation 1 of issue 2 here:
Pink Floyd The Wall Pressing Info
Record Collector magazine's recent edition only serves to confuse things I think!
However, my matrices disagree with the Pinkfloydarchives listings of this "Transition Sleeve", as mine are:
Side1: SHSP 4111 A-11 359
Side 2: SHSP 4111 B-3U 330
Side 3: SHSP 4112 A-1U 201 (TML-M)
Side 4: SHSP 4112 B-3U 264 (TML-XX) |

| | Have now added the rest of the sleeve images.
"@mlgh224, how did you manage to do the cover?"
With Photoshop (CS3) using the 'Photomerge' tool in 'Interactive Layout' setting. Important to have all the images to be stitched in the same orientation (bricks all level) and to have the exposure the same on each. (PM if you want more detail). |

| | Have added scans of the front and back of the outer sleeve. Front and back the same except for the plastic film (not really a sticker) thing with "Pink Floyd The Wall" on it which is loosely attached to the front.
Will do the rest tomorrow if I get home early enough, unless someone beats me to it! |

| | For reference I've got B-2U on Side Two (so SHSP 4111 A-2U, B-2U, 4112 A-1U, B-2U TML-M). However, on a huge selling record like this it would've been pressed in large numbers in advance of release and I personally think that "first pressings" are likely to span a number of matrix variations.
Can't help with the ICE issue, I'm afraid ! |

| | Thanks for that Billy Two,
I was using both the sleeve and label to add details and got confusing with “Hey You” and “What Shall We Do” not on the label or in different position.
I take it that mine will be one of the first issues, dead wax SHSP 4111 A-2U, B-3U, 4112 A-1U, B-2U TML-M.
How are we going to get the cover up, ICE could not sort it out. |

Billy Two 16th Sep 2013
| | From the infallable pages of Wikipedia :
"In advance of its release, technical constraints led to some changes being made to the running order and content of The Wall, with "What Shall We Do Now?" being replaced by the similar but shorter "Empty Spaces", and "Hey You" being moved from its original place at the end of side three, to the beginning. With the November 1979 deadline approaching, the band left the now-incorrect inner sleeves of the album unchanged." |
|
|
|
Billy Two 16th Sep 2013
| | The lyrics "What Shall We Do Now" seem to be an alternate draft to "Empty Spaces", which is just the four lines :
"What shall we do to fill the empty spaces,
Where we used to talk,
How should I fill the final places,
How should I complete the wall..."[straight into "Young Lust]
Possibly the extra words are from the film soundtrack (which I haven't seen for a good 20 years), or even more (or less ?!) possibly there's a backward/obscured spoken word passage on the lead in to "Empty Spaces", so maybe it's from there ?
Most likely is that they were just extra words that Rog didn't want to see wasted...

| | Need help with this one.
Side two label not showing “What to do now” inner sleeve shows it, not got my record deck set up to check if it’s on the album?.
Microsoft ICE has problem matching images of cover, another brick in the wall. |
