| ppint. ● 9th Nov 2015 | - i like the way that bob powel, presenter on bbc radio london's country music programme and editor of country music people magazine, felt it necessary to elucidate for yuk audiences that "a six pack" was a merkin "...expression meaning a packet of six cans of beer sold to take away in supermarkets." - this needed explaining to us, and in such curiously stilted terms, in the year of our lord° one thousand, nine hundred and seventy-two? ° - by which date, palaeolithic though it might now be accounted by some, it is rumoured that the phenomenon°° had been noted, not only in such sundry parts of great britain as blackpool, bristolol, cardiff, durham, exeter, lancaster, leeds, manchester, morecambe, newark-on-trent, nottamun toun, penarth, preston, rotherham, sheffield, swansea, towcester, wolverhampton, and york, but had been sighted even within the bounds of the king'°s new castle upon the river tyne, and in forn parts north o't'border, such as stirling, st. andrews, glasgow'n'edinburgh; and even beyond these shores, in norn iron's cities of belfast and both derry and londonderry (the two sharing a greater or lesser common identity in place, though not necessarily in spirit). °° - yes, not only that of the six-pack, but even that of the supermarket! | |
