However, pinpointing {Images #549947 & 549948}, the pressing of that particular variant would have been from late 1975 up to the end of '77. Late '75 was when the "All rights reserved..." language would take its place in the rim print. 1972 through late 1973 Capitol LP's still had the U.S. patent number 2,631,859 in the rim print.

The original cat. # would have been ST-2614, ostensibly on the Starline series, but Scranton and Jacksonville pressings used the rainbow band label; only Los Angeles had the then black-label Starline design, changing to the red/white "bullseye" target label come 1967. As of 1972-73, the greyish tan Starline label design was used for this record. From what it looks like, the SM- prefix on this LP dates to 1975 (though it was in 1974 that what had been known since 1968 as Capitol Industries, Inc., had changed its name to Capitol Industries-EMI, Inc. - as seen on the bottom of the back cover {Image #663444}).

It is also a re-issue cover, due to the target label logo on both front & back.

Good guess, R.C.! I have a 1972 Joe South single, "Coming Down All Alone"(issue # 3450) which has this label design(but Gold 'Capitol' on red background) which gives me the date for the earliest use of this label design. R.C., your guess of 1973is closer to the mark of when this album would've been issued as a re-release because the initial issue would possibly have the black label with the rainbow around the edge or the orange/yellow swirl.

This would be a post-1972 re-issue, based on the label design. EMI-Capitol Industries didn't use this label design in 1966, it didn't come into use until 1972 at the earliest, and lasted until about 1977.
