B4) Was Dog A Doughnut? is credited by many musical historians as the starting point for the synth based New Wave music soon to follow!

This disc sounds incredible!

There has been a Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab re-issue which fetches a few bobs... but while I haven't heard that, it's difficult to see what improvements they could have made to the way this sounds.

For those of us who are perhaps only casual Cat fans, only the lead track will be the familiar one, and maybe that makes people opt for greatest hits and best-ofs, rather than get his studio albums, but this has a lot more to offer. I has a lot of early-ish synth programming, and lots of noodly and twiddly sounds and noises, all wrapped around the familiar song writing style of Mr Stevens.

Was Dog A Doughnut? is a particularly pleasing noodle, as well as Killin' Time... the vid I attached to an earlier comment.

Sonically though, this has to be heard.... it'll knock you out of your shoes!

I found a sealed copy of this at a boot fair yesterday... with import sticker and the little "clip" taken out of the sleeve.

What gets me is how the recent vinyl culture thing of keeping the thing sealed affects me, for I sat for a full five minutes contemplating whether to open it or just stash it away somewhere (bury it in the garden like Samuel Pepys' cheese ?:)...

...eventually I snapped out of it, and thought: "What the hell am I doing?", and got the craft knife and opened it up.

a gloriously preserved smell of 1977 came flooding out, and I really got my nose in the sleeve, and breathed deep... aaahhh, wonderful!

Then I got to hear the music too!

A lot to be said for playing the discs you own.
