Original back cover variant (with black instead of white Sire Records logo in lower right corner), label variant scans (with Sire Records/Warner Bros. Records banner at bottom) and inner sleeve scans added.
Images attributed to me are of the 2005 reissue by Rhino on 180 gr vinyl which also came out on red vinyl. Both versions though have the same cat# and Sire label as the original 1978 release. What is missing is the printed inner sleeve but that's small potatoes I was just happy to get a copy after my original Australian copy went missing in the early 80's.
These reissues are interesting as Rhino and some other companies manage to reproduce the labels on the final product. Music On Vinyl from Holland are another example and it makes them tricky to list as all Music On Vinyl releases are listed as on the Music On Vinyl label even though the actual labels maybe CBS or Parlophone. This one I've listed as Sire but should it be Sire / Rhino, Rhino / Sire or just Rhino like the Music On Vinyl releases?
I think the entry as it stands is fairly self explanatory and any further mucking around with labels would only confuse things.
This copy is a recent repress but Sire seems a to be a bit secretive about exactly when and how it uses identical labels to the originals (as far as I can see) and the same cat#'s. Sire has done the same thing with the Ramones and Talking Heads back catalogues and it is a bit disingenuous of them to not indicate that these are repressings This copy comes with white paper inner sleeve and not the fantastic cartoon inner sleeve of the original (despite advertising it when I ordered it). Still one of my all time favourite records regardless of the tiresome trainspotting concerns.
"Police!" The cover of Gerry & The Pacemakers "I Like It" was written by Mitch Murray not C. Scott, C. Carter, F. Thomas as listed above. Data was entered as per the label to comply with the site policy. Anyway what you have here is one of the best power/pop, punk, post-punk albums you can get.
