 I couldn't find a trade mag review. Chart BB 200 14 Dec 68. Adding CB advert 12.14.68 pg 41.

Added cover for the Capitol Record Club version. this does not have a plug (sticker? integrated with artwork?) for "This Girl Is...."

Mod Edit: Capitol Records Club Issue has now been moved to its own entry.

I've learned to avoid Capitol record club stuff like the plague!
That said, I seek out the Longines (Decca, Gloversville) Beatles LPs as they sound better to my admittedly cloth ears.

I see that based on the lacquer numbers, the lacquers for this issue were cut in-house by Capitol's New York studios. Whilst Jacksonville pressed this (no surprise there), the label fonts were from the Los Angeles plant.

Deadwax A: (etched) 0 or O at 9o'clock ST 1 91597 W1 (in very heavy script) #2 (thin, probably by a different person)
B: (etched) 0 or O at 9o'clock ST 2 91597 X2 (in very heavy script) #2 (thin, probably by a different person)

I admit I had not noticed the manufacturing yet, but did not look for it. And I would never have made a connection to any Record Club here, the few I have in my stack are always more overtly recognizable by having "Whatever Record Club" or similar at least alongside a common label, if not a unique Club label.
WBl, you always amaze me with your ability to make out and differentiate manufaturers from fonts. Never a need for a cover....

It clearly says on the right side of the label, "Mfd. by Capitol Records, Inc. U.S.A." - indicating that this was an offering from Capitol's record club (which, after late 1968, was sold to Longines-Wittnauer which kept it going up to September 1974 after which they sold what was left of the record club, its members, and its label clientele to RCA's record club). I'm interested to know what lacquer numbers there are on this, as well as whether there is a hand-written or machine-stamped "O" (or "0") indicating a pressing from Jacksonville, IL. No, Columbia Record Club copies would've retained the SPS 571 cat. # (plus using Pitman, NJ type) on the label.

No trace of any record club on this product, only Scepter Records logos. This was bought used, so does not prove anything. Plain white inner might also be a later addition, seeing Scepter also went for catalogue style liners, see gregs78s version here

The ST-91597 / ST 91597 copies were issued through one of the big record clubs, Columbia if I remember rightly.
