mister_tmg 18th Dec 2016		Sleevenotes from the back: Nos grands parents, puis nos parents parlaient avec fierté de "l'Entente Cordiale", il a fallu attendre 1962 pour que cette "entente" se transforme en "histoire d'amour" 45 millions de français sont tombés amoureux d'une petite Londonienne, qui elle-même n'a pas pu résister au charme de l'un, d'entre eux puisqu'elle l'a épousé. Ainsi Petula Clark a fait avec son sourire et son talent beaucoup plus et beaucoup mieux que de sévères et illustres Ambassadeurs. Ne serait-ce que pour cette raison, nous devrions remercier Petula, mais ce n'est pas tout : elle a apporté aussi jusqu'au plus profond des foyers de France, sa voix merveilleuse, son rythme, sa gaité, et aussi sa sensibilité. Voilà pourquoi elle nous est doublement chère. D'ailleurs qui penserait qu'elle n'est pas française ? son accent ? il est si petit, et puis il est si charmant qu'on dirait une parisienne, qui a voulu imiter une londonienne. Comme le disait Sacha Guitry "il n'est pas besoin d'être née à Paris pour être Parisienne, on est de Paris parce que Paris vous a reconnu comme tel". Nous voici donc avec une nouvelle grande vedette, et n'en déplaise à nos amis Anglais, Paris n'est pas prêt de la leur rendre. English: Our grandparents, then our parents spoke with pride of the "Entente Cordiale", yet only in 1962 did this "understanding" turn into a "love story" when 45 million French fell in love with a little London girl who herself could not resist the charm of one of them since she married him. So Petula Clark did with her smile and talent much more and much better than serious and grand ambassadors. If only for this reason, we should thank Petula, but that's not all: she has brought right into French homes her wonderful voice, her rhythm, her vivacity and also her sensitivity. That is why she is doubly dear to us. Besides, who would think she was not French? Her accent? It is so slight, and then it is so charming that it could be said that she is a Parisienne wanting to imitate a Londoner. As Sacha Guitry said "there is no need to be born in Paris to be Parisian, we are Parisian because Paris has accepted us as such."
