Added alternate back cover and labels from 1981 or later repress. This version is not listed on Discogs by the way. That's an invitation to steal.

Hi Lee, EMI had the rights to Motown in the UK until late 1981, when RCA took over the licence. EMI had had the rights in much of the world, but gradually moved to other companies in the late 70's and early 80's - Astor in Australia from October 1978, Vogue in France, Bellaphon in Germany, etc. RCA picked up most of the world rights in 1984. I think your copy was just a common or garden shop import.

My copy of this is on RCA not EMI as is Janie's copy here. It is identical in every other way so did RCA own the rights to Motown before or after EMI? Or did EMI own the rights in Europe and RCA own them for the rest of the world? I bought my copy in Australia so this release could have been released outside Europe also. Anyway I'll do scans and add them here tomorrow but it is a little odd.

Record companies also occasionally forget the meanings of their catalogue number prefixes - "STML" was originally for stereo Tamla Motown LPs, but this one's mono!

Lots of artists seem to need linking to their "The"'ed versions, or un-soloist ones. Seems even the original rights owners change these at a whim, not only quickshot shady punkadelic bootleg compilers.
