Hi Phil, yes, the modern record is supposedly (I'm not convinced) all souped up technically but labelling seems to be a lost art. Lots of new releases or re-releases have very shoddy labels (this being a case in point) that contain very little information or don't reflect the artwork of the original release. A lot of new labels are only a little better than old bootleg labels. Third Man, Sub Pop, and some Rhino releases are very good though. My favourite label is Yazoo and my most hated is the Aussie Wizard imprint - I am yet to find an album that suits the label. Wizard did release a lot of stuff that wouldn't have seen the light of day otherwise though so I should be thankful for them even if I can't stomach their hideous label..
It is, but I hate the label colours! The 1978 reissue with this same catalogue number had the more appealing purple and white label, with the word "stax" in red in the logo. Can't have been that hard to reproduce, surely? Or maybe this is down to some fussy accountant saying "you can't use more than two colours on the label!".
