PhilMH 13th Oct 2018		Hi Focus B, the X in Decca matrices signifies an outside production; similarly, the Rolling Stones records on Decca (produced by Andrew Loog Oldham "for Impact Sound") had XDR/ZXDR matrices, whereas standard Decca matrices were DR (mono) or ZDR (stereo) for recordings done at West Hampstead, or CPDR/ZCPDR for recordings done at the Chappell Piano studio in Bond Street. The E means electronic stereo (acknowledgments to Paul Pelletier's listings for this information).



Focus B 13th Oct 2018		Interesting to hear about the single wordnwot. I note it has a Philips (phonogram) catalogue number too, probably to fall in line with the usual Dutch Decca releases that were pressed by Philips there. ZDR would of course indicate stereo. I'm not a Decca expert by any means but ZXDR could mean Stereo compatible with mono? I'm sure I've seen E, eg ERL used for albums featuring tracks in reprocessed stereo.



wordnwot 27th Aug 2018		FocusB - TH4 Side 2 Candle of life is a minute shorter than the Album version, but on the made in UK for Dutch market release 6101 600 http://www.45cat.com/record/6101600nl we are treated to the full album version. Now that was nice of them:) They also use ZDR not XZDR as on their UK releases (except TH2/2 of course) for stereo. What was going on there?



wordnwot 27th Aug 2018		Focus B - I stand corrected. I have every Threshold single TH1 through TH25, but did not re-check, I just checked and you are spot on, with TH2 side 2 alone is mono amongst singles. btw, (TH3 has a lovely wide stereo field). so all checked.



Focus B 25th Aug 2018		Actually , UK issues of TH1 and TH4 are stereo. TH2 is stereo side 1, mono side 2. Don't know about TH3 though as I've never seen a copy. Confusing when the labels have mono XDR matrixes but the inner groove is ZXDR which is stereo of course.



wordnwot 23rd Aug 2018		Apart from an early Threshold singles TH 2 side 2, this Mono LP was 'It' as far as mono releases on Threshold. Decca made a decision to end concurrent mono/stereo versions, sometime April - May 1970 'ish. So this left a window from Nov 1969 when it 1st appeared through to April 1970. One would assume that there was only 1 batch pressed to cover demand and then that was the lot.



Focus B 6th Dec 2017		Thanks wordnwot. Your copy seems to have a different shade to mine which is more pink in colour. My copy is in poor condition but purchased for the pure novelty in finding a mono copy. Never seen a copy since. In contrast I've probably seen more mono copies of "Cord" and "Threshold of a Dream" than stereo.
