Notes

a) H 1191 / XCTV 82651.
b) H 1192 / XCTV 82652.

In the dead wax run-out area on Side 1, the Master No. has originally been incorrectly written as XCTV 82561 - 1KA. This is scored out and replaced with the correct no. XCTV 82651 - 1KA. On Side 2 the number is correctly written as XCTV 82652 - 1KB.

Produced by William Stevenson.

Two versions of this album were released. The title given above - SMASH HITS OF '62 - is the first issue. This was replaced/reissued, presumably later than 1962, with the revised title THE MARVELETTS SING and accompanying new front cover artwork. This second version is noted for the incorrect spelling of the group name on the front cover, with the final 'e' just before the letter 's' being omitted.

The group name is correctly spelt on the labels of both versions. Originally these were white with dark blue print on the oceans of the globe and centre of the record on the logo.
The company address: 2648 W. Grand Boulevard, Detroit 8, Michigan appears at the bottom of the labels.

The revised (second) version was initially issued with the same white logo style printed in yellow but with the dark blue and black being replaced by green and brown. Later, copies were issued with a yellow Tamla label with a logo of two adjacent discs in reddish brown and silver.

Track listings on both versions are the same.

You will also notice that the titles are arranged differently for each cover.I was talking to an ex Motown employee in Flint,Mi in 1986 and some interesting information came forward. After a full page ad in Cashbox magazine for this LP,is was noticed that the apostrophy after 62 was on the wrong side. The cover was pulled and not shipped and the labels were cancelled. In their haste to cash in on the Marvelettes popularity,a second cover was hurriedly printed, but spelt their name wrong.By this time, their popularity had waned.,Motown tried again with a 3rd issue, but all was to no avail, the record didn't sell and didn't chart in the top 200 and many boxes were returned to Motown and destroyed. They are now almost impossible to find. The cheap CD is only good for a frisbee
