Trester 20th May 2015		I have to add that the year of publication is 1972 on the label, but 1973 on the sleeves.



Trester 20th May 2015		I bought these four records decades ago in Germany as separate releases, but all with the catalogue number TU 229. Record 1 has black lettering, record 2 green, record 3 red, and record 4 orange lettering. The pressing code on the left side of the label is S. I don't know what it stands for.

Neil Forbes 20th Jan 2015		Hi, RPFiller. Good to know they ARE original! At least you got your money's worth in that regard, though by looking at the labels, it's a bit disappointing to note the lack of composer credits. I rely on that info when I record a track into my computer(via Sound Forge) to store as an MP3 file. And to Record Collector's comment: "Looks like the cover to Majestic's 20 flashback greats", it most certainly does as I have that LP, so I can definitely confirm R.C,'s observation. It's obvious that, at this stage in its history, K-Tel was still using authentic versions in its compilations - and that was good! A great number of my MP3 files were lifted from K-Tel and Majestic LPs - gave me authentic content from which I could make my own CDs from, and when I was on community radio, I was often playing CDs I'd made at home from such files. Sadly though, in their latter years, for whatever reasons, Quite a few non-authentic tracks started turning up on K-Tel issues, particularly around the mid-1970s. So as not to get caught out, I have to audition the track to verify its authenticity before I commit it to my MP3 files.

RPFiller 20th Jan 2015		Yes, Neil Forbes...they're all original hit recordings, none of those awful re-recordings. And since there aren't 10 or more tracks per side, the sound quality is surprisingly quite good.



Neil Forbes 15th Jan 2015		RPFiller, I note you said the tracks were all original, that's good to know, because K-Tel had, in latter years started "cheating", using re-recordings, or recordings of dubious source which they tried to claim as original artist versions but, when you heard them..... you knew something wasn't right about them, the singer's voice didn't sound quite right(was that really [insert name] on that track?). One of the very worst offenders in that regard is the New Zealand-based Music World label, owned by Hughes Leisure Corp. If you're chasing authentic product on vinyl or CD, give Music World the flick, they're absolute rubbish!



RPFiller 15th Jan 2015		I've added the boxed set front and back cover images. Also, the record labels in the boxed set are printed in colored, script text unlike the ones pictured here. Unlike most K-Tel releases, the sound quality here is pretty good. Plus, all tracks are the original hit versions, not re-recordings.



Trainman 29th Nov 2014		The discs are marked TU 229 1, TU 229 2 etc. I'm missing disc 3 Some copies had black lettering, and the "dash number" was after the TU 229 (as in scans of disc 1 and 4.) Some pressings had red printing, and the dash number was BELOW the TU 229 (as my disc 2) The K-Tel box sets seemed to have a particular affinity to being broken up.
