Notes

Although the Paris Holiday disc, which was the catalog number of UAL-40001, was the very first United Artists disc of 33.33 rpm that was issued in May 1958, this (UAL-30001) was the first United Artists disc of 33.33 rpm that was issued by means of the 30000 (popular) catalog number system due to the fact that the June 16, 1958 edition of Billboard magazine had confirmed this statement. When United Artists started to issue discs of 33.33 rpm, this company released these discs by means of the 30000 (popular) catalog number system and of the 40000 (soundtrack or original cast) catalog number system. Initially, the catalog numbers of the first eight popular series discs were numbered UAL-30001, UAL-30002, UAL-30003, UAL-30004, UAL-30005, UAL-30006, UAL-30008 and UAL-30020. Then, United Artists changed the numbering system to the 3000 (mono) catalog number system, and established the 6000 (stereo) catalog number system. Accordingly, the UAL-3021 issue was the first disc of 33.33 rpm that was never issued by means of the 30000 catalog number system.

This disc concerns Hal Schaefer, who was the musical director at United Artist records, and his band members who had done modern interpretations of the eleven songs by means of a jazz-band style although these tunes were originally sung in their respective picture shows. Some of these tunes, such as Molly-O and Moulin Rouge, which is actually a cabaret in Paris, date back to the 1920s. The tune “Eternally,” which is also known as “Terry’s Theme,” was a song that was penned by Charles Chaplin who initially composed this tune for the 1952 picture show of “Limelight.”

Even though this disc did not sell well, this disc became such a hard-to-find item that many record collectors are likely to pay at least $1000 for an original factory-sealed copy.
