Notes

Johnny Darrell was a popular country singer who was reared in Georgia and had served some time in the US armed forces. Since Mr. Darrow was discharged, he had relocated to Nashville to become a prosperous country artist. Initially, he had managed a hotel near the Music Row, a historic district that is home to predominantly the country music, gospel music, and contemporary Christian music industries.

After Mr. Darrell was discovered by record producer Kelso Herstin, a producer who was employed at United Artists records, he established a trend of introducing "lyrically adventurous" songs such as the Green Green Grass of Home, Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town, the Son of Hickory Holler's Tramp and his most popular tune With Pen In Hand. All these tunes became major hits for other artists, such as Tom Jones, the First Edition and O.C. Smith.

This disc of 33.33 rpm sold very well in the market of country and western music, but sadly did not prosper by means of the Billboard hit parade of the US top 100 national songs. Lastly, this was the final United Artists disc of 33.33 rpm that was monaurally and stereofonically issued in both the United States and Canada.
