Notes

Gordon Lightfoot is a singer, composer and guitarist who had achieved international fame by means of folk, popular and country music and had helped define the folk popular sound of the 1960 and 1970 eras.

After Mr. Lightfoot had prospered in the performing arts during his boyhood years in Canada, he had relocated to Hollywood, California to study jazz composition and orchestration at West Lake College of Music. Mr. Lightfoot had paid his expenses by singing on demonstration records, and writing and producing jingles of radio advertisements. Despite the musical contributions that Mr. Lightfoot had done in the Los Angeles area, he tremendously missed Canada and had moved back to his native province of Ontario.

A few years later, Mr. Lightfoot had secured a recording contract with United Artists thru which he had cut four discs of 33.33 and four discs of 45 rpm. Two tunes, Black Day In July b/w Pussywillows, Cat-Tails were issued by means of the United Artists 50281 disc of 45 rpm in both Canada and the United States. The tune, Black Day In July, which had focused on the Detroit race riots in 1967, had earned much international prominence for Mr. Lightfoot.

This is the third Gordon Lightfoot disc of 33.33 rpm that was issued by United Artists. By means of the reverse jacket, tune A2 is titled "The Last Time I Saw Her," and tune B1 is titled "The Mountain and Maryann." By means of the disc, tune A2 is titled "Last Time I Saw Her," and tune B1 is titled "Mountains and Marion." Though this disc had poorly sold in most parts of the world, this disc was the first LP that had sold so well in Canada that it had achieved the peak position of # 21 by means of the Canadian RPM hit parade of discs of 33.33 rpm. Finally, this was the final disc of 33.33 rpm that was both monaurally and stereofonically issued in both Canada and the United States.
