@PhilMH..........apologies for the delay in replying to your question.
At UA a decision was made to issue their first release "Roxette" 45 as a black label, something to do with marketing, (I bet Andrew Lauder had something to do with it), and their first release duly appeared as a black label, but not abroad, I've checked.
It would appear that all their UK singles product was issued using black labels, a tactic previously employed at UA with Flamin' Groovies in 1972.
It would therefore be logical to continue with the black labels for their LPs and other vinyl purely for continuity.

I had album "Down By The Jetty" at one time (black labels), but no others, and black labels seem to be de rigeur.......

Maybe - I've seen JU for James Upton on another EMI group release (Ike & Tina Turner), and I'm surprised this has only the year in the code and not the month, but 1984 Music Master says October 1975 for the release date. Never seen this UA logo with an all-black label before - was it just for this album?

...might be James Upton, I will reserve confirmation until I've cross checked other UA/Liberty group releases. it might have a whole different meaning.

I worked at UA prior to this album release, and at Xmas '74, we (the sales force) were given custom xmas cards designed and signed by the band, for the single "Roxette" getting into the charts.

My then new wife of 3 months binned it.......by new year 1975.

Seems to sport an EMI group printers code: DOF/UP/75. If so, it would be (James) Upton?
