Jimmys version is more uptempo than gbs version so with my mixing software I adjusted the pitch to match gbs version clever ay

I'd have gone with the Jimmy Little track, Baby Blue(he was covering the George Baker Selection song) that would've boosted the Australian content on this album.

Two tracks would have been good choice one Joanne (already mentioned) by Michael Nesmith and the other baby blue by Jimmy little

Funny this album popping up again in the random list. It was a good album but spoiled by the Kris Kristofferson track(but that's the atheist in me coming out).

Sorry to disappoint you, re: Joanne, RC. Good track though! Actually you could see where Mike Nesmith was heading as far back as 1967 when The Monkees recorded "What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round, The country music influence on that track stood out like dogs' .....er, you know...! Further evidence of that influence came in 1969 with the song "Good Clean Fun" just before the remaining three Monkees went their separate ways and Nesmith concentrated still further on that style. Another good single from Nesmith(& his phantom group, the First National Band) was "Silver Moon" with an honourable mention to the B-side, "Lady Of The Valley"., Along with "Joanne" c/w "One Rose", these were issued in 1970.

Sorry to have to disagree with you, RC, but upon checking a CD that I'd made some time ago of this album(mastered from the cassette I had of it before I'd acquired the LP), a quick listen revealed the track on the LP is in full, normal stereo, though the spread is not that well defined. Nonetheless, "Down In The Riverina" is normal stereo.

Actually, RC, it isn't so much as "K-Tel taking control" as Majestic asserting itself under its new trading name and identity. Through 1970 to 1973, the company was undergoing a transitioning, reinventing itself, as it were, from being Majestic Products Ltd. to K-Tel Products Ltd. It must be remembered the record albums were still just one component of this company, they were still, in the early70s, marketing all manner of "gadgetry"(the lint-removing clothes-brush, one that springs to mind) but the gadgetry side of the business was on the way out and they were concentrating more on the records side of things as the 1970s wore on. Later they got into video movies, issuing VHS tapes(and maybe Beta as well), but by the 1990s or so, it all came crashing down around the company's collective ears. K-Tel went belly-up! Or in the words of the dead parrot(Monty Python sketch), "pulled down the curtains and went to join the choir invisible"(I really wanted to use that line!).

When K-Tel issued this on cassette, the artwork for the cassette card was minus the title at the top of the cover photo, and the list of artists at the bottom. I know this as I have the cassette version.

thankyou neil saves me the trouble putting mine up these are one of the first albums when Ktel here in Australia took full control and the first to use the stanarded record label (different colours each issue) until 1980 when these sort of labels ceased to a more mixed colour one until 1984 as I put the month of August 1974 the year would be right not to sure about the month maybe it be September but it was in October Bobby Dazzler was also issued note the cover is a overseas layout on that one I played it the other day still sounds good after forty years

I'll put the artwork up for this when I get a chance, RC, I have the LP. Unless, of course, you get in ahead of me! By the way, 1974 is correct though I can't confirm the month, maybe others might know.
