Notes

The labels show the artist's name incorrectly as COLUMBUS. Release date estimated. The single MILKY WAYS charted in South Africa on 31 October 1975 reaching #1 (it peaked at #2 in Rhodesia). The album did not chart in Rhodesia in the sales chart Top 20 and no official albums chart was compiled in South Africa at that time so no chart data is available from there either.

Great detective work kimbozw and many thanks for resolving this to everyone's satisfaction. What a great site this is...

A query message sent to Shuki Levy's website has just come back with the following:

" Shuki did compose and record as Colombus, the English version was performed by Shuki. Moshe Naim was Shuki's uncle. The album was recorded at Moshe Naim’s house in the countryside of France. :) "

My previous post concerning Moshe Naim has been deleted to avoid causing confusion. Other references to Moshe on 45cat have been removed too.

Thanks for your input Fokeman.

Upon close scrutiny of the Warner Brothers labels, I've realised it says 1976 publishing date for South Africa. I've therefore moved the date to the following year.

What is strange is that the front cover seems to feature a picture of Shuki Levy who had the biggest hit singing Colombus's song "Milky Ways" in French and German. This was probably what made Warner decide to release the original English version in South Africa.

I've also noticed that elsewhere (discogs) they've credited Shuki Levy as the owner
of the alias Colombus. While there are very obvious links between Shuki Levy and Colombus, I can't find any link to the very famous French producer Moshe Naim.

Looking at the image of the artist on the front of the single, it doesn't look like Shuki Levy and yet all reference I can find to Colombus suggests that he was a multiple instrumentalist and vocalist. Moshe Naim is a songwriter and producer.

The above URL indicates Colombus was actually Francois Rabbath, not Moshe Niam, as generally said who Colombus was.....

no chart data available from South Africa for this. Did not chart in the Top 20 in Rhodesia either.
