P.S. Found a review in Gramophone, December 1973 issue, which would probably have been available in early November - can't tell whether it's a September release being reviewed slightly late, or an advance copy of a November release, so no help at all, really!

Revisiting this because I have just been looking at another couple of ND releases; back in 2015, I had forgotten about Paul Pelletier's London LP listings, so I should have been able to find this then. However, I have since obtained Decca's 1975 and 1976 catalogues, and they both give the release date for this as September 1973, not November! Paul P. compiled his listings with the help of former Decca/London staff, so my guess is that this was originally scheduled for September, but then put back to November for some reason, and Decca's staff neglected to update the catalogues. Unfortunately UK music magazines for 1973 are mostly missing from the World Radio History site - Record Mirror is the most complete, but a search there turned up nothing. So, it's probably best to leave the date as it is for the moment.

You do know, do you, that Pelletier did an LP listing for London too? Showing this as November 1973, with a Vol. 2 (London ZGM 134) following in September 1974.

Hi Phil, how goes it? Decca handling Bang until 1976? Curious. As I said, I thought CBS may have had the Bang rights. Aah well... Missed it by that much! It's interesting though, that eventually, both Bang and Monument would be swallowed by CBS, but CBS was being, in its turn, swallowed up by Sony(gulp.... burp!) Monument in Australia, I don't think the label had any physical presence in Australia prior to 1967. All Monument stuff prior to that time would've been(including Roy Orbison's output) on the London label, which EMI was pressing and distributing. Interestingly, both London(EMI) and Monument(Festival) were carrying Roy Orbison content. London had singles and some LPs, Monument had EPs(and likely some LPs as well). Monument continuing through the 1970s, possibly. I know the label issued Billy Swan's I Can Help in 1974 but beyond that..... ?????

Going by Paul Pelletier's listing, UK London had the rights to Bang up to at least June 1976, the last Bang single being Paul Davis' "Thinking If You"/"Karma Baby", HL-M 10530, and then Bang got their own label identity via Phonogram in October of that year, judging by the singles listings in 45cat. I think the CBS connection was still a few years away, either very late 70's or early 80's. It wasn't unknown for Decca/London not to have rights for certain labels everywhere, or for territories to change over the years - Monument, for example, moved to Festival for Australia and New Zealand in 1967, yet stayed with Decca UK up until the end of 1970, then moved to CBS, as they did in America (though they stayed with Festival right through the 70's,if not early 80's). Anyway, this LP isn't listed in Decca's 1974 catalogue, published September 1973, and the latest ZG* numbers listed there (127, 129,130) were released in June 1973, so either this was only available for an extremely short time before being deleted, or it was actually released after September 1973.

The thought that anybody could do such a thing to an LP of an artist such as Neil Diamond, makes my blood boil! The worst of it is that recently on Australian commercial TV an ad for a chocolate bar called "Cherry Ripe" has been appearing with Neil Diamond's "Cherry, Cherry" in the soundtrack... that REALLY makes me ANGRY~ Classic rock and pop songs should be PROTECTED from such wanton abuse!

 To break our hearts.

... but I suppose they are incrementally adding value to the copies of albums we do own by such activities, by removing copies from the available stock... so, and only at pains to bring myself to say so... thanks (?) :(

I saw one of these in a charity shop today. It was bent at right angles and had been turned into some sort of ornament.I was so horrified I didn't even notice what it was supposed to be.A single book-end?A clock?Maybe a magazine rack? Why do people do these things?

I thought Decca only had the licence for the Bang label in England in the mid-1960s then passed it to CBS there. Which makes it a surprise to see this early-1970s London issue of Neil Diamond's early work, which appeared on EMI/Stateside here in Australia.

An excellent LP with regards to his earliest recordings(ca.1966). Also highlights his songwriting expertise that only got better and better through the years that followed.
