Bela Chitaristul - Biography

Bernard Dulzer (real name) was a Romanian with hebrew origins guitarist and folk singer, born in Bucharest, 1908 - passed away in 1993, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Well known in '30's, had a great career until World War II when as a Jew, wasn’t allowed to perform any longer (and in fact, was forced to do slave labor).
Bernard Dulzer was the first who played „Sanie cu Zurgăi“ composed by Richard Stein (romanian composer).
He left Romania for Israel in 1950 and resumed up his career.
There met Marcel Spellman (canadian guy, from romanian origin) who came especially to listen him singing „Sanie cu zurgălăi“. Spellman took a napkin and on the spot wrote an English version of „Sanie cu zurgălăi“ which is known as „Johny is the boy for me“ and became a hit in 1953.
