Böhse Onkelz - Biography

"Böhse Onkelz" were a former controversial Punk-Rock / Oi - band (early to the mid eighties) and now a well accepted hardrock band from Frankfur am Main, and was formed in 1980.
Despite considerable efforts later in their career they never quite managed to shake off accusations of "hard-right leanings", both in their work an dwith regards to their core audience. Early work on right-wing labels and the "indexing" (banned for open sale to the under 18th) of their debut album "Der Nette Mann", did not help. Despite (or possibly because of) this they achieved considerable poplar success with almost no media reporting or support.
Band-lineup: Kevin-Richard Russell (vocals), Stephan Weidner (bassguitar and vocals), Matthias "Gonzo" Röhr (lead-guitar) and Peter "Pe" Schorowsky (drums).
The "Onkelz" (as they were populary known and named by fans) split in 2005 after 25 years together as a rock-band. They celebrated their departure with a huge festival for more than 100.000 people at the "Euro-Speedway" (Lausitz-Ring) in East-Germany and played two last shows in June the 17th and 18th in 2005.
In January 2014 the band announced their reunion and played for sold-out shows in Jun 2014 at the German Hockenheimring. Since then the band has been active again, both on stage and in the recording-studio. In 2016 they released their first studio-album in 12 years.
