D-Drifters-5 - BiographyThis local Winnipeg, Canada group started in the late 1950s as The Drifters, playing and singing both current hit covers and Ukrainian dance and folk music. When the US Drifters became prominent they altered their name to The D-Drifters. Then again to D-Drifters-5 when a saxophonist joined. They recorded several albums locally, but did not have hit singles or attain national prominence. By the late 1960s they were the leading bar band in Winnipeg, with robust rock performances of songs like Yummy Yummy. The original members were Dave Roman (accordian), Tony Roman (guitar), Yogi Klos (violin), Mike Klym (drums). Andy Pokolinski then joined as the saxophonist. Later Fred Turner became a member, prior to forming Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Dave was the leader but Tony became the prominent name. Reference sites: Manitoba Music Museum.
