Jon Pertwee - Biography

  

British actor best known for playing the Third Doctor in "Doctor Who" from 1970 to 1974 and Worzel Gummidge in several TV series from the late 1970s onwards. His entertainment career began on radio during WWII, and he later branched into films and TV, at one point hosting a variety series on the BBC in the early 1960s. He also appeared in several Carry On films.

As a recording artist, Pertwee generally stuck to recording children's records (including several in character as Worzel Gummidge) and novelty singles, including a spoken-word version of the Doctor Who Theme. He died in 1996.
