Kenny - BiographyThe original members of Kenny played under the name of Chuff with Ross Prinle (vocals, guitar), Yan Style (vocals, guitar), Chris Redburn (vocals, bass), Andy Walton (drums) and Chris Lacklison (keyboards). In 1974, the songwriters Bill Martin and Phil Coulter discovered the band during a rehearsal. There a potential hit for the band was discovered : The Bump. The song was recorded by The Bay City Rollers the same year. Martin And Coulter re-recorded the song with session singers, with Barry Palmer on lead and backing vocals. The Chuff refused because they preferred to play rock songs and not commercial pop bubblegum. But they accepted. After that Ross Prinle left the band because he had a hippie image and not a teen image like the other members of the band. The new singer was Rick Driscoll, who was a friend of Yan Style. The band became Kenny and the single The Bump was released in 1974. The name of the band was a sequel to another Kenny. Born Tony Kenny, this Kenny released two singles in 1973 : Heart Of Stone and Give It To Me Now Strangely, some countries included a photo of Tony Kenny on the sleeve of the single The Bump. In 1975, Kenny toured the University circuit and released other hit singles : Fancy Pants, Baby I Love You OK and Julie Anne recorded by session musicians and guitarist Chris Spedding. The single Nice To Have You Home was a flop but it's a good song different from the previous single. In January 1976, Kenny released his first solo album, The Sound Of Super K with Martin/Coulter compositions like Forever And Ever (which was covered by Slik in the same year) and Driscoll/Style songs like Long Lost Summer. After that the band left RAK and signed to Polydor in Germany. There the band released with other songwriters the hit single Hot Lips. Another single was released the same year, Red Headed Lady. It was the last single in the chart. In December 1976, the album Ricochet was released. The album included originals songs by the band and lead vocal by Chris Redburn on Make Up Break Up. A funk rock cover of (Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher & Higher is on the album. At the begining of 1977, keyboardist Chris Lacklison left the band. With Ian Kewley on keyboards, Kenny recorded his last Polydor single, Old Songs Never Die. But the song failed to chart and Driscoll left also the band. In 1979 Kenny's back with Style, Redburn, Walton and Kewley. But Yan Style paralyzed one arm after a road accident. Chris Redburn played guitar and David Booker played bass. Yan played with his other hand synthetiseur with Ian Kewley played piano. Andy Walton was always on drums. After German TV and demo recorded the band released his last single, a cover of Reach Out (I'll Be There) with Chris Redburn on lead vocal.
