Maria - BiographyCarmelia Maria Neto Lopez was born in Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) in Mozambique. She started singing in Johannesburg in 1964 and was discovered when doing vocal backing for Dickie Loader. She died in 1981 due to cancer. Awards: Won a SARIE Award in 1974 for “Artist of the year”.
