YankeeDisc SUBS 12th Nov 2023
| | as they say, better late than never…..
To answer a request set by Ziggy72 18th March 2021, ST-1 is Stage One Records, who I believe was an importer and exporter of vinyl products back in 1979.
The MCPS royalty sticker priced at 5p was supposed to be affixed to singles imported mainly from US to UK, and of course a 12” Disco record was technically a single, while LP’s and equivalent length cassettes and 8-track tapes attracted a 25p MCPS royalty sticker.
From an earlier post of mine….
“ Other royalty stamp codes actually printed on labels I think I remember were:-
DE - Disc Empire Ltd
REC - Record Corner, Balham
CIT - City Sounds, Proctor Street, W.1.
WIN - Windsong Music
Virgin - self explanatory
FOX - Mr Fox, Croydon, maybe incorrect.
ST-1 - Stage One Records” |

| | Re your request, YankeeDisc. The wording on my 5p sticker that matches the one here is as follows: SPECIALLY IMPORTED BY ST1-5p Under licence from M.C.P.S. on payment of the prescribed royalty to the British Copyright owners.
I bought a lot of imported 12"s at the time and never really knew what it meant.
I don't have a scanner I'm afraid but hope that helps. |

| | There was quite an effort to make this a hit. Several 12" issues AS 557, AS 557, as well as 7" with a couple different promotional copies in that format. Alas, it was only slightly successful as the single stalled at #44 on BB chart. |

| | IN reminiscing about the disco days, it was this song I heard in early April "79 in Denver, Colorado . It was the first time I ever heard it in that disco bar. And it hit me almost immediately when i heard the vocals that it had to be the BB doing this. I went over to the DJ to confirm it. It was around 9:30 before the crowd arrived. SO i had the whole disco floor to myself. So i took to the dance floor by myself and practised a few of my John Travolta moves and I'll never forget the chill down my spine , the goose bumps i felt listening to the newest BB song which was a remake of course. But i hadn't heard a BB single since It's OK In '76 so I was going thru these withdrawal symptoms and to hear any BB song even a disco remake was music to my ears. It was my nirvana. So this is why Here comes has such fond memories for me and that nostalgia puts it in my Top 5 songs of the 70's by the BB. |

| | About The cover I don't think i scanned it from my collection even though i have a few sealed copies. I took a shortcut and found it for sale on the internet.. I tried to blow up the sticker. but it's too blurry. As i recall it's from a European importer eil site. |

YankeeDisc SUBS 2nd Oct 2014
| | ....scan of complete sleeve #11428 is interesting, as on the sleeve is shown a UK issued MCPS copyright sticker for 5p, that's English money not cents as used in USA and Canada, so one may wonder how the owner came by such a copy.
I imported from US and sold plenty in the UK of the same US copy 2Z8 9028 during 1979 via my company Yankee Disc Distributors, and I never attached such MCPS stickers to the shrink wrap on any copies I wholesaled. I did have to purchase copyright stamps from MCPS as I was a legitimate wholesaler/importer and had to comply with their strict guidelines, but my thrust to MCPS was "go f..k yourselves....."
"REC 5p SPECIALLY IMPORTED BY" is printed onto the MCPS self adhesive sticker, and I cannot read the rest. A larger scan would be appreciated, or failing that, what is the complete printed information showing on the MCPS sticker.
The copy must have been exported from US to UK, a sticker was attached to the import copy by the UK importer, sold onto a retail outlet, and then was bought in UK, and ended up in Canada.
Alternatively the 12" single got into UK from US as an import, and was exported from UK to Canada for sale there, by an enterprising UK importer/exporter, and the 5p sticker was left in situ, as it would have torn the shrink wrap. |
