Notes

The above tracks are different versions of an Irish traditional song called ‘Mountains Of Mourne’ .
Words by Rocky Stone.

12” is a CBS Ireland pressing in yellow vinyl.

This is Smiley Bolger that runs the 'Vibe for Philo' every year on the 4th January for Phil Lynott, they were good friends and this is the only release by Smiley and title is a play on the way Irish say things like 'What 'Bout Ye!!'
Phil Lynott is featured on 3 of the four tracks on this 12” (2nd, 3rd and 4th)

The funny thing is that they should have been disqualified because guitarist Gerry Quigley from Raw Deal actually played guitar in the live version, in the actual song contest.
We have the film footage. It's hilarious. (Gerry's brother Fran ran McGonagles at the time and he had the whole event filmed)
We laughed all the way through. About halfway through watching it Gerry said "Hey I think I was actually there that night". Then The Half Mad Irishmen came on and we couldnt stop laughing when we saw Gerry playing. He was on another planet, so were the rest of the band by that point as they were last act for the night.
They over-did the stage fog and at one point you could barely see the tops of the bands heads as they were head banging away with mad guitar riffs.
When the song stopped, Gerry Quigley wouldnt stop playing and it was a mad effort trying to get him to stop. Would have been a great party afterwards alright.

Thanks for the reply Mark, though I'm afraid we're going to have to alter the artist's name to match how it's credited on sleeve and label. Anyone who wasn't familiar with the history of this record and wanting to find out info wouldn't know to search for it under the name Smiley Bolger, making it difficult to find.

We can add your comment about Smiley to the Notes section...he'll still get a credit !

 Hi Mark,

Going by what's printed on sleeve and label, shouldn't the artist name here be Da' Half Mad' Irishman ?
