albert 27th Mar 2019 | | CinemaSymphonie Pour Un Massacre (Symphony For A Massacre) (1963) | So pleased that this film is now on dvd/Blu-ray with English subtitles, and I watched it last night.
The film has the edge on crime because it has major contributions by crime writer José Giovanni (Joseph Damiani), an ex-con with a pretty unsavoury history, but any film which has his involvement is generally worth a look.
I should add, if you are not too familiar with French geography (important to the story), that Marseille down south is about as far away from Paris as you can get and Lyon is on-route, whereas Brussels in Belgium would be northbound-ish.

albert 27th Mar 2019 | | CinemaSymphonie Pour Un Massacre (Symphony For A Massacre) (1963) | ReviewThe story is of 5 criminals who are in on a drug deal, plans go awry immediately when the supplier reveals the shipment has arrived in one large haul and wants a quick full payment instead of the previously agreed smaller instalments. The gang meet and do agree to go ahead with the deal but unbeknown to the others there are two untrustworthy members, one hasn't the ready money for his stake so instead supplies counterfeit notes, and another gang member is tempted by the large bag of money instead. What starts off as a simple con amongst cons soon escalates into betrayal and murder, the slip-ups and curve-balls are like classic film-noir and everything is neatly paced despite the film's 105m duration.

albert 21st Mar 2019 | | Live MusicThe Girls [Boston] @ The Rathskeller (The Rat) | A legendary venue, even I know of it and I haven't even visited USA let alone Boston so it is a bit of a surprise that I had to enter venue details for The Rat, before adding this gig. People have added hundreds of gigs in Boston but why nothing for The Rat?
OK, I added this listing so I could link it to The Girls CD, looks like this date was also an early one for The Lyres (previous members in DMZ), and La Peste (who released one collectable single back in their day).
The Rathskeller got demolished sometime in 1990s I think.

Not the best recording but so few releases exist for this art-rock-absurdist band.
Somehow it sounds better on youtube:
