From Wikipedia: "the eponymous novel retitled The Trap". This does seem to be the first novel "The Land Of The Giants" (1968) with a new title. The first three chapters cover the preparation for launch, the flight and the landing of the Spindrift on the mystery planet. It also rnentions the previously vanished ships the Anne and the Marintha and includes the female survivor of the Anne, named Marjorie. So I think the first published date should be 1968.

David Whiteley 1st Jan 2021		Book Various Contributors - The PuffinCyclopedia Of Children's Classics	@OldMod67, I always thought these samplers were a great idea, as it gave people a chance to try a book and then if they liked what they had read, buy it. I still have lots of these, and bookmarks, which I picked up from Waterstone's, Foyles, Borders, Books etc. and Blackwells and have bought a few books after reading the sample chapters. It's a shame they seem to have gone out of fashion.
