deezee-45worlds 15th Apr 2021 | | 78 RPMJerry And Peggy - The Carolina Sunshine Girls | 505 and 510 in the FS LA listing should be moved to here. Reported to Mods. Just looked below and it seems I reported this 3 years ago. Deadly confusing and one of them copied the other label name almost exactly.

deezee-45worlds 15th Apr 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Byrd Brothers - Payday In Heaven / Hold Fast To The Right | 505 and 510 in the FS LA listing should be moved to here. Reported to Mods. There was also an early 500 series which I think preceded this.

deezee-45worlds 15th Apr 2021 | | 78 RPMTennessee Valley Boys - Why Pick On Me / I'm Lonesome For You Tonight | Shouldn't we move 510 and 505 to it's own listing? As the note after the listing said, these were subsids of Jim Stanton's Rich-R'Tone label and unrelated except that one nicked the name from the other. There's also an intended RRT 78 by Emerson Leigh that Stanton put out with a white FS label. See RRT list. Copy sent to the Mods.

deezee-45worlds 15th Apr 2021 | | 78 RPMHardin Bros. Quartette - O Jerusalem Fair / I'll Leave My Troubles Here Below | It would seem most unlikely that this is the fact. The two predominent voices do not sound like Ralph or Carter Stanley and the Hardin Bros. Quartette were popular for years, including on Acme. See and hear the entry on YouTube - sure is prime stuff..

deezee-45worlds 17th Jun 2020 | | 78 RPMJimmie Dale - Moaning The Blues / Nobody's Lonesome For Me | The unconvincing Jimmy Dale sides were following the same idea of HB covers at a cheaper price than the current hit versions. Other such efforts were on Vocalion [as revived by Decca] and Bluebird [from RCA-Victor of course]. Dale later did more for Vocalion [see below] but the big labels soon lost interest as did King for their new Federal 10001 series, leaving the field open for Tops and the many others that followed.
They immediately reverted to digging up their ancient stuff as they had previously done on their DeLuxe 5000 series. They did sign up a couple of artists, Tommy Scott & Tommy Magness [inc. Reno & Smiley] but soon transferred these artists to King and discontinued the series. The other majors followed suit and Federal soon became known as an important R&B label via its 12000 series. btw - this DJ label version appears only on the 2 Dale records. Few of the old sides ever appeared on DJ at all but collectors are grateful that Syd Nathan dug up all the 40s stuff.

deezee-45worlds 17th Jun 2020 | | 78 RPMTommy Little And His Sunrise Rangers - Doby Shack Out West / I, Wonder Where You Are Tonight | Holy smokes....at this stage I will never hear this one .. but what a great artist. And if this is the well=known "I, Wonder Where You Are Tonight", such a great song.

deezee-45worlds 22nd Dec 2019 | | 78 RPMWoodrow Adams And The Three B´s - Pretty Baby Blues / She's Done Come And Gone | Contrary to wide belief this 78 does exist and was the source used for the UK Genesis Box Set Series in the early 70s. Like most of the Sun masters, this no longer existed at Chess and all reissues have been taken off this record or subsequent LP/CD releases.
One more copy has been rumored but not been verified - and this & other Phillips releases were deleted after "Juke" was released. Walter's planned follow-up on 767 was also cancelled - but this got put out in error in the 70's (and was also bootlegged)

deezee-45worlds 4th Nov 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumLloyd Price - Lloyd Price | Checking the links, seems the London LP is not here?? Used to play that over n over. Also there was a version with the front picture reversed, not sure now if this was the London or a later pressing of the Specialty.
Luckily only 2 tracks were dubbed by the girls (from the reissue 45) but a slight echo was added throughout but not enough to destroy it. A current review (NME I think) observed that this was better than the HMV LPs being put out...

deezee-45worlds 25th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMJerry Lee Lewis - High School Confidential / Fools Like Me | Review'Fools Like Me' is a wonderful composition and maybe his finest Country Music performance. 'High School Confidential' was maybe a bit of a let-down after the dynamite start but still a treasured performance.
Dick Jacobs was upset that it made the charts, forcing him to play it on his Sunday evening show. He assured us it would drop out the charts by next but he was wrong again.

deezee-45worlds 25th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMEddie Cochran - Sittin' In The Balcony / Completely Sweet | Strange, I'd never realized this was the first by Eddie issued in the UK - but I was only on the fringe of things back then. I heard a lot of skiffle then and really well known R&R. I really got into it by the end of the year. I'll see if the Johnny Dee version came out at the time of US issue.

deezee-45worlds 23rd Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMMr. Billy Williams - I Must Go Home To Night / It's A Wonder What Little Things Lead To | Thanks JLC - Interesting example of using up old labels. This has occurred on several 78s of varying eras.
|
deezee-45worlds 12th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMBilly Williams - Old Time Variety Series, No. 11/12 | The title "Old Time Variety Series, No. 11/12" is not correct. It denotes a series of reissues, just as the postwar "Parlophone Jazz Series" did.
The titles are listed correctly on this page and the list needs to bee changed.
|
deezee-45worlds 12th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMHarry Fay - I Wonder If You Miss Me Sometimes / Your Eyes Have Told Me So | Could the 2 recordings be the same? The titles are similar but that's not enough to prove anything.

deezee-45worlds 12th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMBilly Williams - Why Do You Think I Look So Gay? / She's Coming Home Tonight | This is the first of 2 consecutive listings but the other has scans of both sides. I have not checked the best of the scans but they are from different copies.

deezee-45worlds 12th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMMr. Billy Williams - I Must Go Home To Night / It's A Wonder What Little Things Lead To | Interesting to see this coupling with a later and a much later (dog) label. I see that both were simultaneously uploaded by JLC135 and therefore wonder if these 2 labels belong to the same 78, as seems likely - unless he has 2 copies.

deezee-45worlds 12th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMHorace Lloyd And Harry Lane - Let The Rest Of The World Go By / I'm Always Climbing The Mountains | Another example can be found (163) at mgthomas' great site on this page:
http://www.mgthomas.co.uk/Records/labelindex-T.htm.
A listing, we are told, can be obtained at the CLPGS. I can remember seeing a green and blue version of this label, same design with colouring like the later Coliseums.

deezee-45worlds 8th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMBilly Williams - Put A Bit Of Powder On It, Father / Willie's Woodbines | Nota this is a repressing, so the original B side may well be titled as "Little Willie's Woodbines". I've seen that title around including the Zonophone version on this web site - see pic and link below.

deezee-45worlds 12th May 2019 | | 78 RPMJimmy Rogers - Walking By Myself / If It Ain't Me (Who You Thinking Of) | His last great record. Never figured it out but Chess seemed to seek out a lighter popish sound and JR just seemed to lose all enthusiasm.

deezee-45worlds 26th Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMRed River Dave - I'd Like To Give My Dog To Uncle Sam / I'm Leavin' Cause There's Nothin' Left To Do | This was the first issue (in the 100 series, before the 3000s)..I had it but seem to remember it being blue, which could have been a repress but also wondering if this is a b/w photo.

deezee-45worlds 21st Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMThe Chordettes - Mr. Sandman / I Don't Wanna See You Cryin' | note - spelling is Bleyer. [Thanks, now fixed. Mod.]
|
deezee-45worlds 18th Mar 2019 | | 78 RPMShoe Shine Johnny - Joliet Blues / So Glad I Found You | It has long been known that this record was never issued. Shines said that Chess cancelled it because they feared getting into a rut with a similar sound. Fortunately it got on to LP and many releases since.
I believe that scheduled releases such as this should still be listed when a number was assigned, together with the appropriate notation and interest involved.
