DeweyGill SUBS 6th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMThe Capitolians - Hang On To Me / Just You, Just Me | Marvin Young, v on A side, Jack Miller on B
As mentioned, the A side for Loew’s Capitol Theatre, NYC. The B for Loew’s State Theatre.
Both iconic theatres have since been demolished

DeweyGill SUBS 6th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMFrank Sinatra - I've Got A Crush On You / Ever Homeward | Images added.
Nice trombone on A side
DeweyGill SUBS 6th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMThe Club Ambassadors - My Daddy Rocks Me / Apex Blues | Thanks Mike, I need to pay closer attention, it seems..
DeweyGill SUBS 6th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMKing Oliver - St. James Infirmary / When You're Smiling (The Whole World Smiles With You) | Added early pressing with “Blues” in the title. The flip is identical to existing image 1521040
DeweyGill SUBS 5th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMMargaret Young - Oh! By Jingo! (Oh! By Gee! You're The Only Girl For Me) / Profiteering Blues | One of the highest inflation rates in US history was in the late ‘teens peaking at around 18%. Profiteering Blues reflects that moment in time.
DeweyGill SUBS 5th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMWingie Manone - South With The Border (Down Mexico Way) / Put On Your Old Grey Bonnet | Title needs changing.
A side is actually about a (Hispanic?) renter who was in arrears and then took off with the landlord’s wife. Hence the title “South With The Boarder”. Seems Wingy was more concerned about getting the back rent…
title changed by Mod.
DeweyGill SUBS 5th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMEddie Getz Quintet - Wrap Your Trouble In Dreams / First Attempt | The “mystery” was which version the record would play. There were two different lead in grooves. One played an uptempo instrumental version, the other, a ballad vocal with a Bob Dunne vocal.
The B side is a bop-ish instrumental.
Chord was owned by philanthropist and electrical engineer Michael Cudahy, owner of Marquette Electronics. In his later years he sold the historic and opulent Pabst Theatre to the city of Milwaukee for 1 dollar. It remains a popular entertainment venue.
DeweyGill SUBS 5th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMBuddy Beek - You'll Be Sorry / Tavern Town Polka | More of a dance band that played polkas- if you didn’t, your work opportunities would suffer here in the upper Midwest. You better have an accordion in your band, at least. Sort of like walking into a joint in Texas in 1950, better be a fiddle in the band.
Ken-Tone was operated by Ken Wendell, a local wholesale distributor who handled MGM, London and Milwaukee’s Phau label. MGM probably pressed the disc, it feels like Metro-Lite
Ruth Stein was the counter girl at another regional distributor, Midwest Radio. She moonlighted as a songwriter and had a number of published tunes recorded by other artists.
DeweyGill SUBS 5th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMDave Bartholomew - Girt Town / High Society Blues | The High Society side label suffered enough fade damage (nearly illegible) that I opted not to post it.
Girt Town is an R&B side despite the “Dixieland” branding. High Society is sort of a progressive Dixieland format, if that could even be a genre
DeweyGill SUBS 5th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMLil Johnson - If You Can Dish It (I Can Take It) / I'm Bettin' On You | Also released on several other ARC/Brunswick labels. eg: Conqueror already posted here
DeweyGill SUBS 5th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMJohnny Dodds' Black Bottom Stompers - Joe Turner Blues / When Erastus Plays His Old Kazoo | Don’t know how I didn’t see it
DeweyGill SUBS 4th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - The Starr-Made Player / Sweet Genevieve | Starr player piano sales pitch
DeweyGill SUBS 4th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMHattie North - Honey-Dripper Blues / Living That Man Blues | I’ll be submitting other jazz and blues titles, but these are dupes that have been in my garage for a decade. The bottoms of the stacked milk crates are sagging out of them requiring some immediate attention. My main 78 collection has been sitting in a storage unit for ten years as well. When I access those better copies I’ll update the images, unless someone else beats me to it. For now, I’m bringing some stuff in the house that probably shouldn’t be in the garage or temporarily interest me.
DeweyGill SUBS 4th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMMaude Mills - Black Snake Blues / I've Got The Joogie Blues | With Fats Waller, piano
DeweyGill SUBS 4th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMHattie North - Honey-Dripper Blues / Living That Man Blues | On the B side image, the word “blues” was there at one time, probably obliterated by a former sticker removal
DeweyGill SUBS 4th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMReinhold Svenssons Quartet - Memories Of Paris / There's A Small Hotel | Okay, looks like the label was run out of a record store in NYC according to discogs, so the country will need to be changed
DeweyGill SUBS 4th Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMReinhold Svenssons Quartet - Memories Of Paris / There's A Small Hotel | I listed this as a Swedish label entry as it is presented on the label itself, but I have my suspicions. Could be a deceptive dodge.
Speaking of old cars, the label graphics seem to be influenced by the hot car of 1949-50, the Olds Rocket 88. They used the Futuramic 88 badging on the rear fender spears. The planet graphic looks like the Olds hood ornament. (I owned a few ‘50 Olds’)
I’m thinking this is a US label in disguise, although I have no conclusive evidence.

DeweyGill SUBS 3rd Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMManly Brothers Orchestra - Have A Little Faith In Me / Beside An Open Fireplace | Thanks Mike, I wasn’t sure. I seem to always have to beg to get things linked on the other (45) side.
DeweyGill SUBS 3rd Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMTommy Dorsey - Jamboree / Maple Leaf Rag | Added scroll set
DeweyGill SUBS 3rd Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMRudy Vallée And His Connecticut Yankees - Every Moon's A Honeymoon (With You) / Huggable Kissable You | Added images
DeweyGill SUBS 3rd Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMDave Kennedy [Milwaukee] - I Put My Last Nickel In A Nickelodeon / Some Sweet Tomorrow | Also on 45 rpm
A bit of a nod to Teresa Brewer’s massive hit
DeweyGill SUBS 3rd Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMManly Brothers Orchestra - Have A Little Faith In Me / Beside An Open Fireplace | New York
9277- Have
9279- Beside
Sounds like Mugsy Spanier playing a some decent mute tp. behind TD in the final chorus
DeweyGill SUBS 3rd Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMJohnny Mercer - Bob White (Whatcha Gonna Swing Tonight) / Jamboree Jones | Mercer backed with a pseudo dixie outfit in the Bob Crosby style.
As with most Mercer compositions “Bob White” will enjoy its share of cover versions in the weeks to come.
DeweyGill SUBS 3rd Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMFrisco Jazz Band - A Huggin' And A Chalkin' / Jazz Me Blues | Added images
DeweyGill SUBS 3rd Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMBob Scobey's Frisco Band - Everything Is Peaches Down In Georgia / Huggin' And A Chalkin' | Stock set added. “Huggin’ And A Chalkin’” is a new recording frim the Pacific release
DeweyGill SUBS 2nd Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMLouis Armstrong's Hot Five - New Rhythm Style Series No. 5 & 6 | Added what I’m sure is a repress. The Dorsey image appears to be the same as 2841779.
DeweyGill SUBS 1st Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMDick Porter - May I Have The Next Romance With You? / There's No Two Ways About It | Added images
Recorded February 16, 1937
Most likely meant to compete with Fats Waller. Certainly derivative of his vocal style with a similar small group arrangement
DeweyGill SUBS 1st Jun 2024 | | 78 RPMTommy Dorsey - Liza Jane / The Blue Room | Added promo set
Recorded August 14, 1953
DeweyGill SUBS 31st May 2024 | | 78 RPMBen Selvin - Miss You / Junior | Despite the above quoted session detail, by 1929 Joe Tarto was playing far more SB than BB. His easily recognizable tub thumping is quite audible on both sides. Columbia did a magnificent job capturing his driving rhythm whenever he was contracted for sessions, “Lovable And Sweet” by the Charleston Chasers really showcases this

DeweyGill SUBS 9th May 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumStu Phillips - Follow Me : Original Soundtrack | Billboard review June 7, 1969 - “Special Merit Pick”
