DeweyGill SUBS 28th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMJoe “Wingy’ Mannone And His Club Royale Orchestra - Trying To Stop My Crying / Wailing Blues | It seems the early issues were catalogued by a monthly release date and hand numbered after the labels were printed.
These early HRS pressings are desirable, as they are quality pressings and the mastering was excellent. This particular release sounds far better than the 1945 80000 series Brunswick reissues. The shellac even seems better than a typical ARC release of the time.

DeweyGill SUBS 27th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMD’orsay Dance Orchestra - In A Dream / Where The Blue Of The Night (Meets The Gold Of The Day) | “Le Dandy’s” voice sounds affected to me, I’m guessing it’s just one of the regular contact singers.
Jimmy “D’orsay” is on this session, but not Tommy
DeweyGill SUBS 27th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMWally Edwards [California Ramblers] - How A Little Girl Like You Can Love Me / Don't Tell Her (What Happened To Me) | Both most likely directed by Ed Kirkeby.,
Irving Kaufman is suggested as the vocalist on both, but it doesn’t sound like him.
DeweyGill SUBS 27th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMChick Bullock And His Levee Loungers [Gene Kardos] - Goofus / Darkness On The Delta | “Darkness On The Delta” actually contains the lyric “Lounging on the levee”. While it appears the “Levee Loungers” name was used prior for an issue or two, it was used regularly after this,
Bunny Berigan on trumpet. He would become a frequent sideman from this point on.
DeweyGill SUBS 27th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMJohnny Fenton And His Swamp Stompers - Don't Let Your Love Go Wrong / Sweethearts On Parade | Interesting territorial band. Violin, Alto sax, Guitar, Accordion, String Bass, Washboard playing pop/ dance selections

DeweyGill SUBS 27th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMRichard M. Jones Jazz Wizards - Dusty Bottom Blues / Scagmore Green | Added older style label. Looks like they were still using these through April

DeweyGill SUBS 26th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMSociety Night Club Orchestra - Two Hearts / It Must Be True | The Society Night Club name was generally used for waltz sides.
Also issued on Banner 32128, Oriole 2230
DeweyGill SUBS 26th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMSnooks’ Memphis Ramblers - (Yoo Hoo Hoo, I'm Calling You) Under Your Window Tonight / Love Is Like That | Apologies for the rough labels. And I don’t think I have a better one
DeweyGill SUBS 26th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMSharkey And His Sharks Of Rhythm - Old Fashioned Swing / Big Boy Blue | This “Old Fashioned Swing” is just that. A Glider, as they were called, or a cushioned swinging bench that would be found on an outside porch or patio. But the song swings as well.

Buddy’s Grandfather a noted geologist emigrated to the US and married a wealthy heiress. After being involved on the ground floor of a couple of railroads and working for the US government he returned to the UK. Buddy was a recipient of a nice inheritance and it afforded him a luxurious lifestyle to pursue his hobbies in music and as a rather successful race car driver. He spent it all. His estate home was later purchased by Jimmy Page, John Bonham died there.

DeweyGill SUBS 25th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMMartha Tilton - Every So Often / All Of Me | Images added.
I’m not sure what the deal is with this copy. One side black schellac, one side red. It plays normally with a tad bit of hiss. Like it went through a second process and restamped. The dead wax numbers appear normal

DeweyGill SUBS 25th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMGeorge Brunis And His Jazz Band - D. D. T. Blues / In The Shade Of The Old Apple Tree | Added images
DeweyGill SUBS 25th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMTroy Floyd And His Plaza Hotel Orch - Shadowland Blues (Part 1) / Shadowland Blues (Part 2) | Added more legible image, but not necessarily better copy. I might have a slightly better one as this is a dupe

DeweyGill SUBS 24th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMNat Shilkret And The Victor Orchestra - Fioretta / Dream Boat | Adde corner of inventory sleeve
DeweyGill SUBS 24th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMEmil Coleman And His Riviera Orchestra - What Is There To Say / Moon About Town | Royal Blue. Coleman had about 15 of these in 1933-34, but you seldom ever see them
DeweyGill SUBS 24th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMMiss Annette Hanshaw - Cherie, I Love You / Don't Take That Black Bottom Away | “Cherie, I Love You” is sung as written without a gender adjustment.
DeweyGill SUBS 24th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMDude Skiles And His Vine Street Boys - My Girl / I Can't Give You Anything But Love | Swing band not unlike that era’s Wingy Manone or Louis Prima, led by trumpeter/vocalist Dude Skiles. On the top side, Dude sings the intro, and guitarist (brother?) Jack Skiles sings the refrain. There is an unmentioned celeste on this side, presumably played by pianist Johnny
Black. Dude sings the reverse.
There is a -1 in the runout on side one, a D in the runout on the reverse, if that helps the owner of the acetate.
DeweyGill SUBS 24th Sep 2024 | | 78 RPMTex Beneke With The Miller Orchestra - The Blues Of The Record Man / Why Don't We Say We're Sorry | Top side contains one great line and a reason not to be in commercial radio -
“Here’s a song he’ll play for life,
Written by the sponsor’s wife”
Track borrows familiar riffs from Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, and Miller, of course.
