Fokeman 14th Nov 2022 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Strangers In The Room: A Journey Through The British Folk Rock Scene 1967-73 | Who ever thought "Jesus Was A Carpenter" was written by Ewan MacColl? Correctly, I believe it was Chris Wren.
Fokeman 12th Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumBarry Humphries - Sandy Agonistes | It would be interesting to note that the friend was actually Bill Leader and it is quite probable that he was actually operating the machine for Humphries at the time. This is much more likely than that he lent out his precious equipment to someone inexperienced in its operation. It might be that by describing it thus, BH absolved himself of the need of actually thanking anyone for the recording of his performance.

Fokeman 12th Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Paranoid | Highly reflective laminate makes photos difficult.
Fokeman 12th Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumLindisfarne - Nicely Out Of Tune | [YouTube Video]
One for Rab Noakes!
Fokeman 5th Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumJames Last Band - Non Stop Dancing 7 | These are both labels for side 1, can you add side 2 label please?
Fokeman 5th Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumBlack Sabbath - Paranoid | It's odd that nowhere on the label itself does it state the title of the LP, only the group.
Fokeman 2nd Nov 2022 | | CD AlbumBlack Sabbath - Reunion | Although this is made in Austria, this looks like it is made specifically for the French market with the typical SACEM BIEM SDRM lozenge
The catalogue number from the booklet seems to be 01-491954-10 and the discs have 01-491954-10/1 & 01-491954-10/2 so this seem like a good way of representing the number for the whole set rather than 01-491954-2
What's odd is that the back insert seems to be numbered 01-491954-11 which rather suggests that each part of this set has a different number. On the other hand the sticker on the front (not present on my copy) also says 01-491954-10
Apart from the numbers, it's really clear that this is NOT exclusively a UK issue and that if it were bought in the UK it was still very much a European (if not exclusively French) issue. Surely we must go for the most appropriate country rather than an issue in every country it could be bought in?
Fokeman 2nd Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumNeil Young - On The Beach | Having now added all the tracks on this record, and despite possibly some of the worst images on our site, it is just about ready to be accepted. If anyone has any further information to add or better images, PLEASE feel free to add them or put any further information in comments.
Fokeman 2nd Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumAlice Cooper - Love It To Death | My copy is an early version with a white sleeve and only a thin strip (about half of the height) in black with the photo of the band. I wonder if this is a first issue or just an aberration? On second thoughts it must be a hurried second printing to avoid having the thumb sticking out like an obvious suggested penis...
So I suppose my copy is "version 3"
Fokeman 2nd Nov 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumMagnum - Wings Of Heaven | This was the European issue I think. My copy was bought in France but with BIEM STEMRA on the labels.
Fokeman 2nd Nov 2022 | | CD AlbumJudas Priest - Nostradamus | My copy comes in a book cover Can't find any other catalogue number on any part of the book
Fokeman 31st Oct 2022 | | CD AlbumMatt Molloy And John Carty - Pathway To The Well | What a lovely synchronous coincidence that in entering two different recordings by different artists I find that two of these tracks also appeared on the Séamus & Manus McGuire LP called "Humours Of Lissadell" . Both tracks 01 and 08 appear on this beautiful LP.
Fokeman 30th Oct 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumBob Dylan - Fallen Angels | Just opened a copy of this I bought in 2020 still sealed. Very disappointed to find it was horribly scratched on one track on side 1. How did that happen? It was sealed but with a horrible scratch?
It's not a good album though with Dylan singing 1930s style slow Al Bowlly style lounge songs. If there's a style suited to Dylan's singing voice, it's not this one!
Fokeman 29th Oct 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Who - A Quick One/The Who Sell Out | Track C1 written by John "Speedy" Keen (not Keene) of Thunderclap Newman and a friend of Pete's. Pete produced many of Thunderclap Newman's hits such as Something In The Air.
Fokeman 29th Oct 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumStray - Suicide | I'm just listening to a first pressing of this. A really enjoyable listen. Takes you straight back to 1971.
Fokeman 16th Oct 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - English Country Music | Part of a very short-lived and short run series to transfer important traditional material to tape and then vinyl. Only the SP 104 was ever available for a (albeit very limited) general sale.
Fokeman 16th Oct 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumBessie Brown, Ida G. Brown, Clarence Williams Orchestra - Bessie Brown, Ida G. And Clarence | There are a number of different errors that occurred at this time when the wrong number was written on the back of the sleeve which doesn't coincide with the number given on the label. Hugely confusing when writing the discography of the label!
Fokeman 27th Sep 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Renbourn - Faro Annie | This is completely wrong! This never came out on Belter (who were the distributors) and the catalogue number is for a single released by Transatlantic in Spain...
Credits given as Tradirional...
Fokeman 21st Sep 2022 | | CD AlbumJames Kelly And Zan McLeod - The Ring Sessions | The only Irish Traditional Music set I know where "Touching Cloth" is followed by "Sitting On The Throne". I wonder if this was a joke? ;-)
Fokeman 21st Sep 2022 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Rounder Winter Warmer '96 | Track 2-13 should read "The Luck Penny / Old Man Dillon / The Knights Of St. Patrick"
Fokeman 16th Sep 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumAlex Campbell - The Alex Campbell Sampler | Certainly 1969 as with the other TRA SAM samplers from this era.
Fokeman 1st Sep 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Bowe And Mary Conroy - Celtic Folk Music | I need to have a look at this again... sorry.
Some but not all of the Inchecronin labels had these unusual white yellow labels. I suspect that they were due to the link in the North/South of Ireland between Outlook and Homespun and these are distinctly Homespun labels for my money. Compare many of the Homespun LPs and singles elsewhere on the site.
Fokeman 31st Aug 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumXavier Cugat And His Orchestra - Cugat Plays Continental Hits | I think the same record in the USA was on Gold labels. With exclusively English text.
Fokeman 31st Aug 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumXavier Cugat And His Orchestra - Cugat Plays Continental Hits | Is this American or French? French language text around label. BIEM rights organisation on label too. Different catalogue number series?
CF. French issue here...
(Now moved from USA to France)
Fokeman 27th Aug 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra - The Pigsty Hill Light Orchestra Presents | Really? How so? Date given by (fastidious) owner of the label as compared with the date of a newspaper which says that there's a new record out, without stating any date at all. Where is the suggestion that the date is wrong? This advert probably ran for four weeks in a row to promote the record which was issued 2 weeks earlier...
Fokeman 17th Aug 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumScorpions - Rock Galaxy | Rock Galaxy was a series, much like "Two Originals Of".
David Bowie and Styx both had double compilation albums in this series. It's not really the title of the record but more a group of albums created under the banner "Rock Galaxy" to give people some of the best tracks from the respective artists.
However, the titles of the records in the series of "Two Originals Of" are Two Originals Of Neil Young etc. The same can not be done in the same way in this series.
Fokeman 13th Aug 2022 | | CD AlbumDe Dannan - How The West Was Won | Can we please remember that Trad. is an abbreviation and thus requires a full stop after the d.
Fokeman 13th Aug 2022 | | CD AlbumDe Dannan - How The West Was Won | I've just done this. Frankie Gavin is the leader of the group so sometimes (in the early days) they appeared as De Danann (the correct mythological name) but the band got fed up with repeated misspelling of their name and changed it to De Dannan. There are also Frankie Gavin & De Dannan references so it is quite complicated to link them all sufficiently and correctly.
Hilariously, there is also a CD on Frankie Gavin's Bees Knees label where the name was given on the cover as De Dannann and on the CD De Danaan. I don't know if this was an error or a joke. Either way it's funny!
Fokeman 2nd Aug 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Where Would You Rather Be Tonight? | A single was also issued with Fairport and Jon Benns with Wurzel (from Motorhead). An unlikely connection.
Fokeman 4th Jul 2022 | | Vinyl AlbumRobbie Doherty - Fare Thee Well, Donegal | I've just listened to this the whole way through. I don't think I'd do it again if you paid me. The only track I actually enjoyed was Peggy Gordon but that might have just been because I was joyfully anticipating the end of the record.
Truly awful!
