These recordings were first issued on 10" records in 1952 but this being given the cat# FA 2078 (instead of FP 28) probably wasn't the same year. More like 5-10 years after the first 10" issue.
Fokeman 18th Sep 2021		Vinyl Album Pete Seeger - American Folk Songs For Children	Probably this is an early reissue of 1953 recordings with a slight change in catalogue number and a release in 1954 as we have it. I think all early 10" records were FP to begin with, before a general change and updating of each record's place in their burgeoning catalogue. There are at least two or three thousand records with possibly many more issues with the same recordings finding their way into new issues with different catalogue numbers. Brave is the man who would ever seek to fully collect or catalogue Moses Asch's recorded output!
Fokeman 17th Sep 2021		Vinyl Album Orchestra Callegari - The Cruise Souvenir Album	This was recorded in 1969 and sold on board the SS Homeric and only 14 years later while the ship was still in beautiful condition with works of art on board and beautifully made, it reached the end of its career as a cruise ship. Sadly the kitchen caught fire. "On the night of July 1, 1973, there was a very bad surprise. We were sailing from New York to the Caribbean, with destination Port au Prince (Haiti); at Cape Hatteras, the sea was calm, but there was a thick fog, which reduced visibility to zero. The captain was with us on the bridge and we were concentrated in front of the radars because the area was crossed by fishing boats and motor boats. The silence was interrupted every two minutes by the ship's siren, which signaled our presence at sea in fog. Suddenly the fire alarm sounded on the bridge. It was 03.55 am on July 1, 1973 , the electric horn light signaled a fire alarm. I avoid describing the various phases of the extinguishing operations in order not to enter a sea of technicalities ... The kitchen was completely destroyed and it was necessary to reverse the route and go back to put the ship in safety. The crew was all Italian, except for the Chinese in the laundry. the Commander was called Alberto MAROSSA of LA SPEZIA and the Second Commander was Lorenzo ANTOLA (Lolly) of CAMOGLI (both deceased). The news of the fire was broadcast on all American TV. I remember the wonderful interview given by the first American passenger who got off the ship: “ if HOMERIC leaves again in the next few days, I will be the first passenger to board”. These words made us feel proud of what we had done. There were no injuries on board and the ship returned to New York by its own means. We had shown all of America what ITALIANS can do! Even today, the secret of the success achieved can only be explained by the love that the whole crew felt for that ship that while it was on fire wept with despair, tripling the force to fight the fire. Unfortunately, due to the damage suffered by the heat given off by the flames, the ship had irreparable damage to the upper deck which was completely deformed. After several appraisals and investigations, the owner decided to sell the S / S HOMERIC to a Scrapping Yard in Taiwan. We all suffered from that inevitable decision! I was first security officer then. The HOMERIC was a very luxurious ship; everything was precious on that ship: the furnishings were of a "classic" type, the halls were full of works of art: famous paintings and sculptures, tapestries and superfine brocades. Just use a bit of lighter fluid and it'll peel off nicely. I've a number of these drastically reduced stickers on fantastic records and I think it's worth removing them. Historically it's not that interesting and I'd rather have the record without blemish. Oh, and top quality sleeve image just uploaded. Just found a near perfect copy of this for reasonable money. I've wanted it for ages but only just got round to buying it...

Dave Pegg & Dave Mattacks from Fairport, Dolly Collins from Shirley & Dolly Collins and Alan Stivell on harp and whistle. Sadly Dave Mattacks appears as "Dave Mattocks".

It may even be that it was pressed in France with just the sleeve manufactured in Belgium. At the time of release I would have expected Belgium releases to have Benelux codes etc. On the other hand, every single one of these Cube Belgium releases has the French SACEM rights stamp, so it may be that it was jointly issued for Belgium.

Fokeman 31st May 2021		Vinyl Album Colombus - Milky Ways	Upon close scrutiny of the Warner Brothers labels, I've realised it says 1976 publishing date for South Africa. I've therefore moved the date to the following year. What is strange is that the front cover seems to feature a picture of Shuki Levy who had the biggest hit singing Colombus's song "Milky Ways" in French and German. This was probably what made Warner decide to release the original English version in South Africa. I've also noticed that elsewhere (discogs) they've credited Shuki Levy as the owner of the alias Colombus. While there are very obvious links between Shuki Levy and Colombus, I can't find any link to the very famous French producer Moshe Naim. Looking at the image of the artist on the front of the single, it doesn't look like Shuki Levy and yet all reference I can find to Colombus suggests that he was a multiple instrumentalist and vocalist. Moshe Naim is a songwriter and producer.

Country of manufacture is irrelevant when one considers that this was made for a French label with all details in French and in a catalogue number series specific to the French label.
Fokeman 14th May 2021		Vinyl Album Jack Bruce - Songs For A Tailor	The title of this record was as a tribute to the clothes designer for Cream Jeannie Tailor who died in the Fairport Convention crash which also killed their drummer, Martin Lamble. She was dating Richard Thompson at the time. More information here...
