This would be from the middle to late 1950's whereas Kenny Rogers chose to be billed as Kenneth Rogers. The writers are unknown, though before hearing it, I thought it to be the same song that was recorded by The Sultans in 1954 at the very same ACA studio and released on DUKE Records 133, their second of four for the label. As similar as song may sound, it is lyrically completely different.
Update May 16, 2020: Can someone of authority explain to me why I am still on "Read Only" on 45cat, I can edit comments on 45worlds, but I cannot add any new comments here...? I tried emailing the Administrators but get no response one way or the other.
Update July 5, 2020 I've gotten no response, so if this works, and you still want to ban my input, then feel free to delete my account altogether. You had already made it impossible for me to sign out, so I guess you figured you could track my browsing this way. Too bad...
Update October 11, 2020 I've run across serious errors in some existing listings on 45cat. If you could allow me to post there, I can show you where those errors are. This concerns a recent purchase I'd made only yesterday, and up to now, the information has been misgiven on both entries,

FredClemens 5th Sep 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumBing Crosby - Merry Christmas | Via Discog's, copies of this specific LP have been sold (or offered) for up to $20.00 (US). Via Musicstack, copies of the same have been sold for under $5.00. There are no evident recent sales via Ebay.
How much is it worth to YOU...?
And just so you understand: This website is not a site to sell or to buy.

FredClemens 8th Nov 2015 | | BookDave Thompson - Goldmine Standard Catalog Of American Records | The values stated within represent only those paid for similar items in the then-recent past, condition being a primary factor. They are of no guarantee of present worth. They could be higher. They could be lower. And there are such disclaimers in the book.
If you want present day up-to-the-minute real world value, Ebay is a good resource by checking their Completed listings. Never go by the Starting Bid or Asking (Buy It Now) Price. It's only worth that much if it sells for that much.
All prices are subjective, from a Seller's point of view, and from a Buyer's point of view. Generally a record's true value is what anyone would be willing to pay to replace the item at any given time.

FredClemens 1st Nov 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Crests Featuring Johnny Mastro - The Best Of The Crests 16 Fabulous Hits | Another point is that much of the Composer credit is out of order from what is depicted on the labels.
For what it's worth, the original release of this LP dates from late 1960, that based on the RCA masters used.

FredClemens 1st Nov 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Crests Featuring Johnny Mastro - The Best Of The Crests 16 Fabulous Hits | This listing would clearly (to me) qualify as a Bootleg/Repro listing.
Obvious points include the lack of LPC-904 on the bottom right corner of the front cover, as well as STEREO LPCS over MONAURAL LPC (separated with a line) 904 to the immediate left of the COED name on the back cover slick.
Another (not so obvious) point is that the original sleeve fold-over on top would have STEREO printed but hidden beneath the back slick. While no copies of this release were ever issued in Stereo, they left it open for the possibility (the label decided not to). I've heard a story decades ago of an actual sleeve laid out with the STEREO word exposed on the front, but the jacket contained only the MONO issue. With STEREO showing, the LPC-904 would have been hidden in the back.

FredClemens 28th Feb 2015 | | MagazineStardust | I had picked this up a few years ago when I was trying to find out the true age of Frankie Avalon. No such gossip here. But within did offer some truth amidst all the rumors. There was a page entitled Off To The Movies!, which focused on three up and coming films still in their production stages, and featuring three debut actors known mainly for their music contributions. Frankie Avalon was going to be in GUNS OF THE TIMBERLAND, Paul Anka in GIRLSTOWN, and Dick Clark in HARRISON HIGH. That last movie, based on the best selling book of the same name, upon release would become known as BECAUSE THEY'RE YOUNG.

FredClemens 28th Feb 2015 | | MagazineModern Annual 1964 | I first saw a copy of this back in the day via a school friend of my younger brother. Somewhere along the way the back cover went missing. I've since (recently) found a complete (and clean!!) copy.
The Title is as is from the spine.

FredClemens 21st Jan 2015 | | MagazineDown Beat | The "Young Man With A Horn" on the cover is Frankie Avalon. On the back cover is Avalon along with Ray Anthony. Both shared the same manager, Fred Benson. It was Anthony who discovered Avalon and brought him under his wing, getting him a recording contract with RCA and their newly formed "X" division.
The article on him tells that Frankie was then just 12 years old. That would make his birth year to be 1941 (his birthday is September 18). Conflicting hype says he was born in 1939 or 1940. However, Census records indicate that his true birth year was 1940.

FredClemens 18th Sep 2013 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The Greatest Golden Goodies | The RCA numbers are the same as on the Mono issue (with a "P" following the "8" instead of "Y"), though it's a safe bet that this was issued much later. My MONO edition spells it "Demensions" on both jacket and label. At the earliest this would be a late 1960's re-issue, given the placement and design/colors of the jacket LAURIE logo. Definitely not 1962.
