fredhoyt 4th Apr 2020 | | 78 RPMHadda Brooks - Polonaise / Polonaise Boogie | scrough,
OK.. you are a moderator -- shouldn't the Modern Music label scan be in the top position? Is there some reason (that I don't know about) why earlier labels are not placed in front of later labels? If I were to add this to 45cat the mod would re-arrange the labels to match the order of date issued, and I'm absolutely positive that the Modern Music release was issued before the Modern release. Is it too much work to re-arrange? If it is I won't worry about future additions...
Thanks mods.. (fixbutte, Redpunk, scrough) I guess I'm a little too impatient.

fredhoyt 4th Apr 2020 | | 78 RPMBillie Holiday - Big Stuff (Prologue) / Fancy Free (Galop Variation And Finale) | Added (alternate) record label scans with gold print. To me it looks like the artist on the "B" Track is / are Ballet Theatre Orchestra (under the direction of Leonard Bernstein)
fredhoyt 3rd Apr 2020 | | 78 RPMElla Fitzgerald And Louis Armstrong - You Won't Be Satisfied ( Until You Break My Heart) / The Frim Fram Sauce | "I Won't Be Satisfied" until I get some of that "..Frim Fram Sauce" --
What a great two-sider by Louis & Ella! This is probably one of the reasons by dad collected "jazz" 78s -- he probably played this for us in the '50s.. but all we wanted was Rock & Roll (sigh).
fredhoyt 3rd Apr 2020 | | 78 RPMInk Spots And Ella Fitzgerald - I'm Making Believe / Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall | Added (alternate) record label scans. This record is Sides 1/2 from a three-record Decca Album No. A-657.
fredhoyt 3rd Apr 2020 | | 78 RPMHadda Brooks - Polonaise / Polonaise Boogie | If, as the blurb on top of Modern Music page states, the label was changed to Modern in 1948, then the record in the top position couldn't have been released in 1946. It would have to be a re-issue released after 1948.. wouldn't it?
fredhoyt 2nd Apr 2020 | | 78 RPMEarl Bostic - The Sheik Of Araby / Steamwhistle Jump | Added record label scans, "B" Track composers are different than original poster.. Kay, Mann - instead of - Earl Bostic.
fixbutte, you are probably right inre the composers, thanks for the new scans. I guess you've seen that the 45cat entry has Kay, Mann as the composers?
fredhoyt 2nd Apr 2020 | | 78 RPMLowell Fulson And His Trio - Come Back Baby / Country Boy | This entry really illustrates the complexity of the Down Beat / Swing / Swing Beat / Swing Time label:
1. Scan of "A" Track in top position is on "Swing Beat"
2. My added scan of "A" Track is on "Swing" [California?]
3. Label credited on entry says "Swing Time" (was it ever issued on Swing Time ?)
fredhoyt 1st Apr 2020 | | 78 RPMBilly Byrd And His Penguins - Boom Pacha Boom / Everybody In The Circus Has One | It says "Billy Byrd And HIS Penguins".. but I swear that's a female voice in the lead. I've listened to both sides twice, and watched a video on YT -- ".. And HER Penguins"? Hmm..?
fredhoyt 31st Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMHadda Brooks - Polonaise / Polonaise Boogie | Added record label scans for the actual Modern Music label version of this release. No composer credits on either side. "B" Track is by Hadda Brooks Trio (on both labels). BB ad looks like they were pushing "..Boogie" as the featured side. I like them both...
fredhoyt 29th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMRay Anthony - As Time Goes By / Scatterbrain | Added promo record label scans. I wonder if there is a Dooley Wilson version of this on a 78rpm?
fredhoyt 29th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMIrene Robinson - My Man He's Gone (Part 1) / My Man He's Gone (Part 2) | Acetate plays from the inside to the outside.. I guess that it was no mistake? Not sure of the reason..?
fredhoyt 29th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMBetty Roth, Bill McNamara - That's All That Matters To Me / Everywhere You Go | Mike Gann,
Yeah, but when adding 78s they ask for "Release Dates" -- and we don't know if this was ever released. Wouldn't it be better to leave "Date" blank until we know if it came out as a commercial recording? Just wondering..?
fredhoyt 29th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMJimmy Boyd - Shoo-Fly Pie And Apple Pan Dowdy / Playmates | Added promo record label scans. On the 45cat listing they have "Playmates" as the "A" Track.. does RPFiler know something they don't? or did he only have access to the one 78 record label scan?
I would definitely eat the Apple Pandowdy before the Shoo-Fly Pie. When I was teaching Kindergarten I taught my class "Playmates" using this recording.. ahh, the good ol' days.
fredhoyt 29th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMRosemary Clooney - The Teddy Bears' Picnic / Kitty Kats' Party | Added promo record label scans. Picture sleeve and promo scans probably should be moved up the queue...
fredhoyt 29th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMBetty Roth, Bill McNamara - That's All That Matters To Me / Everywhere You Go | When "Add78"ing they want to know "Release Date" -- since we don't know "Release Dates" of acetates unless a commercial copy shows up.. should we put anything in the "Date" info? Obviously this was recorded on June 8, '49.. should that information go in "Release Date"?
fredhoyt 28th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMHank Williams With His Drifting Cowboys - I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive / I Could Never Be Ashamed Of You | Added promo record label scans, need to be moved up the queue.
fredhoyt 28th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMTed Fio Rito - There's A Shamrock A Growin' Down In Texas / Waltz Of The Misson Bells | Free Copy Not For Sale don't know if there were any commercial issues?
"
fredhoyt 28th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMFrank Sinatra - O Little Town Of Bethlehem / It Came Upon The Midnight Clear | I don't know how many records are in Set C-167, or if they all were "Special Record For Radio Stations"? This is the only one I have...
fredhoyt 28th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMOllie Shepard - Baby Blues / Don't Come Knockin' Upon My Door | Added (upgrade?) record label scans -- nod to Mike Gann.
Just wondering.. why is "..And His Orch." NOT added to Artist? Is there some "rule" that shows when to, and when NOT to add that information? I recently added a Coral Ollie Shepard And His Orchestra, should I have left off the "..And His Orchestra"?
fredhoyt 28th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMOllie Shepard - You Won't Let Me Go / L-U-C-I-L-L-E (Bop The Boogie) | "A" Track Featured in Columbia Movie "Walking Hills" -- but this song was apparently sung by Josh White in the movie -- according to IMDb website.
Ollie does a nice job on both sides here...
fredhoyt 27th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMPeggy Lee - Guess I'll Go Back Home This Summer / Small Hotel | Test Pressing? Promo (no indication)? Acetate ("holes")? I have three of these 9121/9122, 9123/9124 and 9125/9126 -- all recorded (according to DAHR) on 4/3/1956
fredhoyt 27th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMPeggy Lee - Do I Love You / It Ain't Necessarily So | Test Pressing? Promo? Not sure what this is? No composer credits.
DAHR recording date 4/3/1956
Misspelled Necessarily as "Necessarilly" on label, I probably shouldn't have corrected...
fredhoyt 27th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMPeggy Lee - Show Me The Way To Get Out Of This World ('Cause That's Where Everything Is) / Happy Music | I entered this release as a "Promo only" -- it was probably a commercial issue also.. so should I just enter these as 10" instead? Will a "mod" change it to 10" when a commercial scan is added?
Thanks W.B.lbl -- commercial scans added.. comment will self-destruct in 24 hrs...
fredhoyt 26th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMPeggy Lee - Love Letters | Decent version of the Ketty Lester hit. Not sure if it was recorded before or after Lester's release?
fredhoyt 26th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMPalma Shard - Why Should I Cry Over You? / Lois | Not sure if this is an acetate or "Test Pressing", but I'm pretty sure it wasn't released as a commercial record.
"A" Track -- high-pitched female vocal / with piano
"B" Track -- male vocal / with (same) piano
Not sure what Al Terry had to do with the "A" Track? No guitar on record...
fredhoyt 26th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - I Want To Cling To The Cross / I Want To Cling To The Cross | Had to listen to both sides twice before I could figure out title.. originally I thought is was "I Won't Be Going To The Prom" -- close but NO cigar!
fredhoyt 26th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMGeorge Galf - Roses For Mother / Pride Of The Valley | Probably recorded for Mrs Galf (mother? wife?) on her birthday or Mother's Day.
I don't know George, but he'll never make it as a singer.. but then Mrs. Miller made it, didn't she?
fredhoyt 26th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - My Heart Is A Fool | Unknown artist, strange acetate recording.. Male lead (kinda off-key) with high-pitched female background (responding to male lead). Just weird enough to be a hit -- as it says on the label "Possible."
fredhoyt 26th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMCharlie Cal - Georgia / All Of Me | Added acetate from Gold Star [Hollywood] by Charlie Cal. The only other entry by this artist is a (45cat) New Zealand pressing of a U.S. release -- both songs on that release are "cover versions" also. Not a bad voice, wonder if he did any original material?
fredhoyt 26th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMImogene Adkins - Do You Love Me? / That Little White House (On The Hill) | I don't know if Music Makers in Hollywood was a label or not? this is an acetate from them...
