GEMSMFAN 23rd Feb 2019		CD Album Bee Gees - Living Eyes	a very cleverly made counterfeit. I say this, because it looks professionally made. Booklet and back inlay insert were printed on good glossy paper, stapled on the fold. Legitimate RSO discs were pressed/manufactured in West Germany by PDO (PolyGram). They were however completely metallic from outer rim to the center hole. This apparently was made with a clear center ring and no matrix numbers, otherwise it would look legit. The label side with RSO red pig looks good. The official disc has a thick black ring printed along the outer rim where the common disclaimer is printed in German around the disc. The jewel case is odd as it is a newer case with a dark grey disc tray with four hollowed out areas, sort of resembling a film reel. The back insert is visible. Cases like that didn't exist when the official disc was released.

GEMSMFAN 29th Sep 2018		CD Album Various Artists - Oldies But Goodies	Only 6 of the 17 tracks on this volume are from the original LP compilation. They are: tracks 5, 7, 9, 11, 12 and 17. I guess being that CD's had much more playing time, Original Sound decided to mix the compilations up combining tracks from other volumes in the series. Also when this series was created for compact disc, songs from 70's were mixed into the compilations. I always felt "oldies" were the 50's and possibly the early 60's.. the doo-wop, etc. the era when "Rock'n Roll began (pre-British Invasion). R&B, Jazz, Soul all played a part in creating the new craze. Something kids liked, but parents then didn't growing up in the swing/big band era. In New York City, WCBS-FM was the oldies station and in I believe in the 90's they added in 70's songs. Many listeners didn't listen to them anymore and took to the internet to look for online broadcasts. OBG Vol.4 on LP OBG Vol.4 on cassette

GEMSMFAN 23rd Jun 2018		CD Album ABBA - Gracias Por La Musica	It is worth noting that all the ABBA Universal / Polar Deluxe (Sound & Vision) were issued 2 ways. The first being in a high gloss cardboard thick bi-fold package and second (more than likely the same year) in an all clear jewel case with the hinged flip-out double disc tray. I have the second release on this release and while it has different catalog and bar code numbers, it has the same (catalog number) discs as shown in the 2 images here.

I've added several RSO's and made them all Europe. Same is true for the Polydor's.. pressed in Hanover, but not necessarily Germany. @PhilMH: the U.S. had no plants in the early going... first was DADC in Terre Haute, IN... and they started with CBS label pressings.. not necessarily all for the U.S.A.

GEMSMFAN 13th Apr 2018		CD Album Various Artists - Poison Ivy – Gems From The ATCO Vaults 1959-1962	I mixed up the numbers. Don't know how I came up with Track 07 which has the correct track. I meant Track 15 is reversed with Track 02 on my copy (disc 1). Track 02 on my copy is "Poison Ivy" and Track 15 is "Besame Mucho, Pt. 1" I apparently have a mispressed CD. It could be the problem was corrected and I got a CD that got through QC.

This wasn't issued the same year as the 3" CD (it's not 1988). This must be around 1992, 1993. I noticed there is another one of these with a bar code of 886972461427 still being sold. Not sure if it uses this catalog number.

GEMSMFAN 20th Mar 2018		CD Album Various Artists - Poison Ivy – Gems From The ATCO Vaults 1959-1962	If you own this 3 CD set. Please check disc 1. Two "The Coasters" tracks are reversed. Track 2 "Besame Mucho, Pt.1" is really Track 7 and Track 7 "Poison Ivy", is Track 2. Atleast it is, on the set I own. Maybe, One Day Music corrected this. Was curious where the writing credits came from? My set doesn't include them. There is no booklet.. just sleeve Notes by Brian Parks. I will say the discs aren't easy to remove from the clear trays.

Canadian releases usually were on "Columbia".. note other Canadian releases submitted.

Greatest Hits was the first Atlantic U.S. cassette followed by Arrival and ABBA The Album those all were released as the LP and 8-Track were. "Waterloo" and "ABBA" were released later. Maybe someone has a Schwann Catalog to when these first were released.

GEMSMFAN 28th Jan 2018		TV Burt Sugarman's The Midnight Special (1973 - 1981)	The studio in Los Angeles where this was taped, had multiple stages to allow preparation of another vocalist or group's instruments, since most performances were "live" in concert. The large red neon letters that one can see in band photos sometimes, were a clear hint where the photo was taken, as this was a signature backdrop used for the program for performers who used one of the side stages, for their appearance. The 1972 pilot was hosted by the late John Denver with an appearance by Mama Cass Elliot.
