George Slv 30th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumClyde McPhatter - Golden Blues Hits | I was recording and archiving this one and find they messed up the speed of the master again. Needed at least a 4% reduction in speed just to match the printed times, and make it sound okay.
First it was Teresa Brewer on Philips, which was managed by Mercury. These singers both have sharp voices to begin with. Ya don't mess with that.

George Slv 29th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumDuane Eddy - Twangin' The Golden Hits | This has his now-famous recording of Raunchy. There was total confusion about the artist on the web. This is the best recording of Raunchy.

George Slv 29th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumTom And Jerry [guitars] - Guitar's Greatest Hits | Mono was MG 20626.
Golden Wildwood Flower was the main single release, followed by South.
Unfortunately it didn't seem to chart anywhere.

George Slv 28th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJim Reeves - The History Of Country Music Presents Jim Reeves | Another game attempt to collect a few scattered hits that were otherwise hard to locate, like Welcome To My World, Distant Drums and I'm Gonna Change Everything.
This must have been from a private tape collection, because the quality is imperfect, with some speed wavering and other faults.
|
George Slv 28th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJim Reeves - Something Special | As I see it, this is a release based on a longing to have Welcome To My World and I'm Gonna Change Everything on one LP with his other hits. His widow Mary recognized how some songs were scattered around LPs and this was to help djs locate them. Welcome was on Hits V2, Change was on Hits V3, and it's all too much trouble.
It says remastered. What's that about? That word always worries me.

George Slv 26th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumMoscow Radio Symphony Orchestra - A Night On The Bare Mountain | They've always had a problem translating that title to something sensible. Bald, now Bare. Use "barren" already and get it over with.
|
George Slv 26th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumClyde McPhatter - Lover Please! | Two Mercury hits, starting each side, and their B-sides, plus good covers of other hits plus rerecordings of his 1950s hits.
|
George Slv 26th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumClyde McPhatter - Rhythm And Soul | A mixture of failed singles, album songs, and a rerecording of Without Love.
The music has a hard R&B edge.
|
George Slv 24th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumTeresa Brewer - Music, Music, Music | The notations on the back cover are by a radio station. The style wasn't suitable for them.
|
George Slv 24th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumTeresa Brewer - Music, Music, Music | Recorded in London were A1, A3, B1, B5. These were issued on two singles and apparently charted in some way in UK or Europe. A1 got some airplay in America.
But now I find that these London sessions are mastered about 2% too fast. And the equalization may not have been done well in addition. Bad deal for her voice again, similar to Philips.
In fact B1 and A3 seem better at a whopping 4% adjustment.
The single for A1 has much better tone.

George Slv 23rd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumTeresa Brewer - Ridin' High | Yikes Trainman, somehow I overlooked the presence of your album. What to do?
Anyway your 2 inside covers and the back cover are the same as mine. I'd say your sheet was torn out. Your right side says #II, so #I is missing.
|
George Slv 23rd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumTeresa Brewer - Ridin' High | They put a lot of good work into the cover graphics. They had high hopes for the album, saying "This sparkling collection represents a new "approach" for Teresa. Singing these eminently modern arrangements, we're sure you're going to love the "New Teresa" as much, if not more, than the girl who has already stolen millions of hearts with her enchanting voice and unique vocal style."
But the jazz-flavored style does not have much of a following and you hardly see this album.
Still 3 pages I could scan.

George Slv 22nd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBob Thiele And His New Happy Times Orchestra - Those Were The Days | Somewhere There's Someone Who Loves You was vocalized by Teresa Brewer on a single that same year.
This was the time when she renewed her acquaintance with Thiele and they married that year.
She also recorded What A Wonderful World three different times in the following years in their collaborations.

George Slv 21st Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBob Thiele And His Orchestra - I Saw Pinetop Spit Blood | This album is where Teresa recorded her celebrated rendition of Gary US Bond's New Orleans. It was prominent in her shows, and included in the album 16 Most Requested Songs (pertaining to 1970s). Hurry On Down was similar.
|
George Slv 21st Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumNancy Sinatra - Movin' With Nancy | Trainman, I agree that's the best way. Add to that all the location settings in Nancy's.
But Teresa Brewer said she always sang live on TV shows (except when they had no orchestra). The way they often are moving around it's hard to think they are actually singing at the same time. See her on Shanana on Youtube, and what do you think?

|
George Slv 20th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumNancy Sinatra - Movin' With Nancy | She did a lot of lip-syncing on the show, so many of these are the recorded hit versions, like Friday's Child.
I also see that the TV show is on a 2000 DVD.
