LaurenceD SUBS 21st Nov 2022		Vinyl Album The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Music From "West Side Story" And Other Works	This entry is for the re-titled release with the same cat no., but with a new cover; the original title, "Bernstein Plays Brubeck Plays Bernstein", is still present on the labels. I entered the date (Aug 1960) from the original release. If we have a separate entry for that earlier one, which is not present as yet, maybe we should adjust this date. It might be from around 1962.

LaurenceD SUBS 13th Nov 2022		Vinyl Album The Four Brothers [jazz] - Together Again!	These were Serge Chaloff's last recording sessions. He died July 16, 1957. Something went wrong with the track title designations on the cover and labels. From the songs that I'm able to identify by listening, those titles line up with the tracks on the opposite sides of the album. The matrix numbers on the labels match those on their respective sides.

LaurenceD SUBS 12th Nov 2022		Vinyl Album Loretta Lynn - Your Squaw Is On The Warpath	You're right, Ed, that song was built around the melody of a cigarette jingle ("You can take Salem out of the country, but ..." became "You can take Barney out of the barroom, but ..."), and had to be removed because of copyright issues. Which is too bad because the song fit in nicely with the "squaw on the warpath" theme.

Selections from those tapes appeared on an unauthorized Bravura CD in 1990. See here for lots more info: steve hoffman forum BTW, according to one poster in the above thread, there was no April 1 concert as stated in the notes of this release. Instead, both shows took place on March 31. In any event, while the sound quality on this release is not optimal (a bit fuzzy), the performance is outstanding and well worth checking out.

LaurenceD SUBS 26th Oct 2022		Vinyl Album Fifth Flight - Into Smoke Tree Village	Various sites date this at 1970; I cannot confirm that date, but the choice of cover songs would point in that direction. I don't understand the high prices attributed to this LP. It's possibly because of various commercial websites declaring this as a "psych classic" because it features some fuzz guitar here and there. But honestly, these guys sound comparable to some high school dance bands that I heard back in 1968. It's fun to listen to, but don't spend too much money on a copy.

LaurenceD SUBS 21st Oct 2022		CD Album Sham 69 - Rare And Unreleased	The tracks on this cd that I found interesting were the early versions of songs with Dave on vocals, which were eventually released with modified lyrics, new titles and Jimmy on vocals. For example, "TV Times" evolved into "Lost On Highway 46".

This album contains rechanneled stereo versions. I am unable to determine the release date for this one, but it may be from around 1973.

Somehow it turned up on Capitol in 1958.

The main difference in my labels { 3105014, 3105015 } are the matrix numbers; but the runouts show the opposite numbers, e.g. for side 1, label = K12-195, runout = K12-196. So as it works out for my copy, the sides as played correspond to the label titles (but not the cover titles).

Each of those tracks on the LP and single has an added spoken bit in English by a male voice during the instrumental intro. For example on A7: "Dame Lale, twilight and I'll be with you. We'll take that walk to our favorite cafe. You know, you're quite a girl."
