make1968 25th May 2021 | | 78 RPMGene Vincent And His Blue Caps - Bluejean Bop / Jump Back Honey Jump Back | I marked this as promo only, but actually this is a pressing mistake. Who Slapped John was planned for b-side, and for an unknown reason Jump Back Honey was there at first (before the mistake was corrected). Some copies of Jump Back with the stock label exist, too, but I have not seen any white label copies that would play Who Slapped John.
Whereas Bluejean Bop plays correctly as written on the label, all versions.

make1968 13th May 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumEddie Cochran - The Very Best Of Eddie Cochran | The two front covers I've uploaded look almost the same, but the later (obviously) pressing can be distinguished by finding the white spot on Eddie's knee.

make1968 25th Feb 2021 | | 78 RPMGene Vincent And His Blue Caps - Bluejean Bop / Who Slapped John | Thanks, good learning! As far as I know Jump Back was released in South Africa and Philippines only, probably not elsewhere.

make1968 16th Feb 2021 | | 78 RPMGene Vincent And His Blue Caps - Bluejean Bop / Who Slapped John | Matthew, wow! Does your record come with stock or promo labels? After seeing your comment I had to check my copies, and...
I have
1.) the white label test pressing: Bluejean Bop / Jump Back Honey Jump Back
2.) the stock label regular pressing: Bluejean Bop / Who Slapped John
That's 2 different records!
There should be an insert for this SP-6 release, too. I don't have it, still trying to find one.
|
make1968 21st Jan 2021 | | CD AlbumGene Vincent And His Blue Caps - The Lost Dallas Sessions 1957 | Bonus tracks 17-21 are not by Gene and the Caps, but by other related artists (as stated in the sleeve and as on the linked release on UK Rollercoaster label). [Mod: corrected]
|
make1968 9th Jan 2021 | | 78 RPMGene Vincent And His Blue Caps - Bluejean Bop / Who Slapped John | Wide font (large Capitol logo) is L.A. pressing and narrow font (smaller Capitol logo) is Scranton pressing. The records were produced at the same time in both plants, as far as I know.
("Later variant" in the description is misleading information)

|
make1968 6th Dec 2020 | | Cassette Album[no artist listed] - Kovaa Rokkia | This was my first own c-cassette ever, at the age of ten in 1978! And I still have it. Plenty of Chuck Berry tunes.

make1968 18th Nov 2020 | | Live MusicStompin' Riot @ Linna-Hotelli | The band's last live gig before Finland's Covid-19 restrictions took place (on March 13th). After that everything was cancelled for months.
|
make1968 7th Nov 2020 | | 78 RPMGene Vincent And His Blue Caps - Be-Bop-A-Lula / Woman Love | Slholzer, you're absolutely right! But both Rhodes and Reynolds here! As Irish pressings followed the UK catalogue, it'd be surprising if there is no existing UK (first) pressing with both of them credited - I believe such image is yet to appear in the database.

make1968 26th Aug 2020 | | 78 RPMLes Paul - Nola / Jealous | If I'm not mistaken, this is the first record on Capitol label in Japan, 1951.
King Record Company - King Onkyo Co. Ltd, Tokyo - distributed Capitol releases until the end of 1956, when Shibaura stepped in.

make1968 13th May 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Vincent And His Blue Caps - Bluejean Bop! | Carryonsidney, you can find the tax code next to the center hole, it'll tell the period of that pressing:
from Oct 27th 1955 RT * turquoise
from June 1st 1957 XT * turquoise
from Oct 1st 1958 UT
from Apr 8th 1959 ET
from Aug 1st 1960 WT
from July 26th 1961 OT
from Apr 10th 1962 ZT * black
from Nov 26th 1962 PT
from Jan 1st 1963 MT * black
from July 1st 1963 KT * black
from Nov 23rd 1968 JT
I've put * after the codes if I have that one.
(I hear a voice saying: no, don't start collecting the whole set of different tax codes. You have too many copies of this album already!)
The turquoise labels were changed to black during XT tax code (as both colours exist with XT), somewhere in the middle of 1958 - I suppose... (does anyone know?)

make1968 29th Apr 2020 | | Live MusicMarie Celeste @ Molly Malone's | Hundreds of gigs played! Still so few pictures of them... we played live for years on a weekly basis, and I cannot remember many other venues than the ones we have pictures of. Early dementia?
Hope that folks would find these pages and have no fear of adding their shots, I'd love to see - and remember - more!
I am not certain about this picture either. Was this Molly's or some other stage in Helsinki night... Anyone recognise the venue?

make1968 25th Mar 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Vincent - Gene Vincent Story Vol.6 A Tribute To My Best Friend | That's what I was wondering, too. I have tried to put Sonopresse and Pathe pressings separately due to their different #. Basically, if we follow the guideline every record with different cat# should have its own entry, but label variants of the identical number under the same entry. This LP was distributed by either Pathe-Marconi (2C...) or Sonopresse (2S...), and possibly both of the distributors put out copies with labels of various colours (but so far I've seen only this purple 2S and the orange 2C that Recordarcheologist1 mentioned). I suppose Pathe orange (1974) was prior to Sonopresse purple (1978) but I may be wrong.

make1968 20th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMSonny Burgess - My Bucket's Got A Hole In It / Sweet Misery | The image 2169698 is not for a 78, it's a 45 rpm label - still uncut. I have a few of those belonging to other Sun releases.
|
make1968 19th Mar 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Country Hits From Sun Vol. 1 | This LP label is related to the well-known Memphis Sun label, but not to the other Japanese Sun label from the 1970's. To my knowledge this was the only album released by Sun in Japan, in addition to a bunch of singles.

make1968 12th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMBill Haley And His Comets - Teenagers' Mother / Rip It Up | B-side label image seems to be Essex 399 (Haley as well) for now, must be an uploading error?

make1968 12th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMGene Vincent And His Blue Caps - Say Mama / Be Bop Boogie Boy | The last Canadian Gene Vincent pressing on 78! This is a wonderful (and rare) record - both sides always been my favourites. Bought from J. Tefteller, and that's the only time I've ever seen it.
