MM, your correction just kicked in! Cheers! As I said, my mistake(inverting the 2 and 1) was the fault of those darned keyboard gremlins!(oooh if I ever get my hands on one of those little buggers....) Ha-ha!

Just saw my mistake re: cat(mieeow) number - Keyboard gremlins strike again! Thanks for the corrections, MM! My estimation of 1980 was a guess which was clearly way off beam.

For what Bob Hawke has done to Australian regional TV, I'll curse him 'til the day he dies! He shall NEVER be forgiven!

Correct, RC., NBN is Newcastle's first(thus incumbent) commercial TV station, commenced broadcasting in March, 1962 and is the ONLY regional station in all Australia that still produces its own in-house comprehensive new bulletin. Night Court was a late-night comedy show aired here in the years just before that Bob Hawke brain-fart called regional TV market aggregation was inflicted on us. (Bob Hawke was prime minister of Australia at the time we won the America's Cup yachting race).

B2 carried over from previous LP, "Pleasure & Pain". Not the first time Dr. Hook had done this. Their version of the Sam Cooke song, Only 16 appeared on the "Bankrupt" LP, then on "A Little Bit More".

Attention Magic Marmalade! Here's that album of Dr. Hook I mentioned. I put the publication year as tha is what's on the label, though it refers to the previous Capitol issue. At a guess, this Fame reissue may date from around mid-1980. Note the Capitol trademark where the EMI logo might normally be located. Hope this helps in cataloguing the Fame series.

Being Human (1994)
Saw the title and immediately thought of the Brit. TV series about a werewolf, ghost and vampire living(?) in the same inner-London townhouse. Very likely unrelated to the plot of this movie, though!

The Kensington. That one's gone as well. Last I remember it was converted to an under/18s night venue(no alcohol) but what it is now, I have no idea. Never went any further into it than the front entrance off Hunter Street. I remember what was there before it, though, a H.G. Palmer sewing machine sales and repair shop had that location well-and-truly stitched up!

Actually, RC, in the days before that accursed regional TV market aggregation(a Bob Hawke brain-fart of seismic magnitude), NBN did have this show as part of its regular schedule, so it wasn't just a "time-slot filler".

Some movies would work well with that theatre's audio system, others might not. Incidentally, the theatre was originally called the Lyric and entry was directly off Wolfe Street in the days before the Goumas's got hold of it. It had spent several years in disuse until about 1972 or 1973 when it was refurbished, given its "posh" new spelling and had the entry foyer relocated to under where the original foyer was. A "tunnel" with a set of steps brought you up to the corner of Wolfe and King Streets.

The cinema was one of the first equipped for Stereo movies, not that Mel Brooks' s films made very much use of the stereo effect throughout, just at moments he wished to highlight.
Accoustically the theatre was so-so. It's mainly Margaret Goumas's manner that got people off-side.

I recall they had the Road Runner and Coyote in that episode(funny mix of animation blended in with the live action). Told ya, this show was funny! Oh boy!

I remember the first time I saw this at the Lyrique Cinema, Wolfe Street, Newcastle NSW. There was me and only one other person in the whole cinema to see it! This might've been partly due to the personality of the cinema's owners, Theo & Margaret Goumas, particularly Margaret, rude and abrupt, and somewhat arrogant. Theatre closed a couple of years ago, hardly anyone missed or misses it.

This show used to crack me up! Truly! I remember once scene where Bull Shannon(Richard Moll) was talking about his life being fulfilled by a miracle, this while nursing a statue of an armadillo. As he spoke, the statue came to life! This was great comedy! They just don't make shows like this anymore, more's the pity!

Ripley's Believe It Or Not! (1982 - 1986)
@23skidoo, I think you missed my point. I got yours about two different types of reality shows.
You cited "In Search Of....", "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" and "Cosmos" in your comment. I can't really make a comment on Cosmos as I never watched it, but Ripley's I've seen quite a fair amount of that show, and as I said, it was so-so, a TV schedule gap-filler with the occasional interesting tid-bits here or there, then there was That's Incredible, along the same line, and now I realise my mistake, That Wes Harrison segment was actually in That's Incredible, rather than Ripley's. And of course, In Search Of... The late Leonard Nimoy presented a great half-hour documentary on all sorts of material, Easter Island statues, ghosts and hauntings, missing persons, all manner of subject. And again I say, dated though it is, even now it's far better than the crap thrown up at us these days. Re-runs of "In Search Of..." would make a great replacement for QI on ABC here in Australia at 8.00pm on Wednesdays.

The title shown as "One Day In Every Week", was, originally(as I remember) titled "Anthem" by Procession(opening cut on Side B), Also noting "Hide & Seek by Somebody's Image(vocal by Russell Morris, pre Real Thing) on EMI/Columbia. Seem to recall that track issued on the W. & G./In label originally. EMI must've bought the rights to it.

Monolith, even at £12.50 a set, you're still reasonably well in front, as against £18.00 for the Canon product. Not sure of the exchange rate between British £ and Aussie $ but the brand you get is still good value.

As to Record Collector's comment about Boz Scaggs' "We're All Alone", all I can say is "Ribbit, ribbit!"(ha-ha)

Ripley's Believe It Or Not! (1982 - 1986)
@23skidoo, yes, I agree. I really liked "In Search Of...." But I would baulk at blaming shows like you mentioned along with "In Search Of...." for being progenitors, or even inspiration for the crap we're seeing now. Shows like "In Search Of...." were more of an informative documentary-style programme that was, at the same time entertaining. Dated as they are, they'd still make great viewing even now, instead of that other "reality" crap.
